I have a P4 system I have built. I have bought a new atx power supply to put in an older case. With everything installed, the power goes on, then turns off. Fans spin then turn off. There is a green led on the mainboard that is on, indicating to me that there is power going to the board. Is it possible that an older PII/PIII case (I say case only with its on off and reset buttons) cant accomodate the off/on for an newer ATX style motherboard? Any ideas?

- Thanks for that. The switch is in the 115v mode. I should add that I have tried switching the Mobo into two different cases, one with the new 450W 24pin ATX PS, and the the other case which only had the 20pin molex but did have the additional 4pin that plugs in near the cpu. The mobo docs claim it can run with either the 24pin or the 20pin molex connector providing the 20pin comes with that other 4pin plug for near the cpu. I have removed power from all the drives, and pulled all the ram. Still powers then shuts off. Even the monitor gets a brief signal and turns the power from amber to green then back to amber. You can hear the monitor click on then back off. Is it possible the mobos bad?
The case shouldn't have anything to do with power getting to the motherboard. Though there should be a switch on the power supply to increase or decrease the voltage move the switch to the other position and see if the machine stays on.

- That is possible. The best way to test is to take a motherboard you know is working and connect it in that case, then see if the problem is still there. But it also sounds like your power button maybe the problem so if you have another case try the mobo in another case and you will know if it is the power button or the mobo.
