Hi Chloe,
Depending on where you bought this unit, typically, the first 30 days is in store exchange. This is a door switch problem. If you bought it online, contact the seller. I don't know what the warranty on this unit is..

SOURCE: Over the range microwave

I have the R-1460 in the same series with the identical symptoms. After reading MicrowaveSvc's solution I started taking apart to view the door switches and found the upper door switch to be the problem, but not a switch failure a support failure. A small bottom plastic support post that holds the switch in place was broken (probably from repeated use/abuse) allowing the switch to move when the door hooks were engaged, thus not actuating the button switch. Since the problem was mechanical rather than an electrical bad switch, I made a small support arm for the switch from an old plastic mechanical pencil and glued it in place to hold the switch in its correct position. Problem solved, microwave works! Thanks to MicrowaveSvc's description of door switches.

SOURCE: Microwave will not turn off

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. Other times, it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can probably find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: LG Microwave won't turn off

Our LG did the same thing - called customer service and they told us the open and slam the door 10 times. It actually worked! It reset the switches somehow.

When I open microwave oven door . close the door again light comes on an plate spins an wont stop unless I unplug it

Inside the door latch, is a safety feature, that prevents the microwave from operating unless the door is closed. This feature can easily become faulty, or even come with the fault already causing the microwave to constantly operate whenever the door is closed.

Microwaves can be very dangerous in regard to holding HEAPS of voltage within the unit. I recommend getting yourself a new microwave, as attempting repairs on any of the modern units can, more often than not, be far more costly then the price of a new one.

Hope this helps.

The turntable no longer turns but everyting else is fine. Is there any way for us to repair this?

Depends ... you don't mention the make or model.

Remove the cover. You may be able to see the belt. Sometimes, the part that slips into the driven pulley breaks. Take it apart and see what you find ...

I have a cookworks microwave and turntable wont turn

you may find that the turntable motor has failed but it may also be the coupling under the plate to get to the motor u need to remove the plate and tip the unit on its side rite in the middle of your unit you will see a square plate u will need to cut this away at the corners when you have taken this off you will see the motor do unplug the unit before you do any work on it also to refit the plate all u do turn it around and use a small screw to hold it in place

Over the range microwave turntable has stopped turning

You give very little information Toni, but it seems the turntable motor is defective. If you are comfortable with this you must remove the cabinet (probably six screws in the back) and locate the motor at the bottom of the unit. Check all connections and connect the motor to a 120 volt source. If it is defective, order a new one on-line from the manufacturer. Your other option is to replace the oven. This would be my suggestion unless it is still in warranty.

LG Countertop Microwave why stopped rotating?

Microwave turntables are belt driven from a small motor.

Usually it is the belt that needs replacement.

Unplug, and remove the outer case to inspect the belt. If it is still tight and attatched, the chances are it needs a new motor - often it's cheaper to buy a new unit.
