They aren't cheap that's for sure. Have you tried taking the part number and doing a google search? You may be amazed at some aftermarket prices. Do you have part number, I can check too.

I just switched the coils around. The other cylinder went dead, so I knew I had a bad coil. Replaced the coil and mower runs great.

OK, lets back up. How are you testing for spark? Do you have an inline spark tester? If not, go get one from your local auto supply house ($10) and come back. You back?
On the ignition module, set the gap to the flywheel using the thickness of a clean business card. Make sure the module is on "right side" side of the module should say "cylinder". Disconnect the kill wire from the spade connector on the module. Reassemble enough to spin the motor at least 250 rpms and check for spark with your inline spark tester. Spark? If no, then you either have a bad module (likely) or a bad flywheel (rare). If yes, reconnect the kill wire and retest. Spark? If no, trace the wire back to the switch. The switch will have a cable that activates the switch and connects to the upper handle. If the cable is binding or has stretched, it will not move the switch far enough to activate. If the cable is moving less than 1/2 inch, then it is damaged and must be replaced. If the switch is moving enough, trace the wire from the switch to the module and look for open/exposed spots in the wire that may be grounding out against the engine or frame.
Good luck.

One cylinder keeps cutting out and in and it is not the spark plug.

is this question about a two cylinder saw ? if so its an oldie but I like em !! seems that two cylinder 2 strokes can develop points issues that fire the coil twice on one cylinder only (sometimes saw will run , with little power) , ck points time, this assumes of course that you've got a single coil with two wires exiting it , dual coil saw? id ck the coil that doesn't fire with a ohm meter

How to troubleshoot no spark

If fuel injectors are putting fuel into cylinders, then crankshaft position sensor is o/k as this sensor is used both for ignition timing and fuel injector timing. I would check for 12 volts at the middle pin of the connector on coil plug. If present, then ECM is more than likely at fault. You should have a low ohm reading between the center pin and either of the outer pins. As this is a single fire coil, both sides are unlikely to fail at the same time so this again points to the ECM or a common item, i.e. 12 volts supply to the coil.
By the way, spark plugs will not fire if engine is turned over with no plugs fitted in engine. These engines need to see compression for spark to happen. So to check spark, leave plugs in engine and fit a new one on lead and rest it on engine while operating starter motor.

1993 Ducati M900. On cold start up low power. Feels like dropped cylinder. After a few minutes returns to normal. My thoughts, one of the coils. Spark plugs appear ok.

if the plugs look ok and don't indicate a fuel mixture problem, it could be from a weak spark. You can check the resitance on your coil and plug wires with an ohm meter to see if they are within factory specs. Also, check for a possible vacuum leak around the carb & cylinder head on the cylinder that is missfiring. You can do this with some carb cleaner, spray it around the carb mount and vacuum lines---if the RPM's change it sucked some in. Hope this helps.
