Question about Dell Computers & Internet
Installing a HP printer can be troublesome if you do not follow the instructions. Usually you are asked to install the software first and then connect the printer.
The drivers and instructions for this printer should have been on the accompanying disk.

First of all, what is your Operating System? XP? Windows 7? Windows 8? Are you connecting via Wireless or USB? Is your system 32-bit or 64-bit? If connecting via USB, try different USB ports on the laptop and a different USB cord just to be sure. If you can get into your laptops Device Manager you can go under Action and tell it to scan for hardware changes while the printer is attached to the laptop. Windows 7 & 8 usually have decent Plug and Play features and may pick up the driver.
Are you getting the driver from HP directly? If so, make sure you are matching the Operating system exactly (ex. Windows 8 64-bit/Windows 7 32-bit). You can discover your system type by right clicking on the Computer icon and going to properties. You may also want to try an HP Universal PCL 6 driver if the driver for the actual printer will not download. Save the driver to the desktop or a designated file within the C drive in case your temp folder is corrupt and run it from the local save.
There could be other issues, such as a 3rd party firewall blocking the driver or the Anti-Virus could be an issue as well.
I hope this helps!

when you renewed the ip address, windows assigns an ip address of 169.xxx.x.x, this your router will not be able to see. if you have enabled dhcp in the router, check that the wireless card is set to obtain an ip address automatically. If you have no luck that way, go to another pc and in the network card properties, look at the assigned ip address number that the router has given the pc, eg 192.168.2.2, if you have more than two pc you can bet that the other number assign wil be 192.168.2.3, so go to the problem pc's network card problem and and set the ip address manually to eg 192.168.2.4 and set the dns address to 255.255.255.0, save settings and try connecting again. the only other thing stopping a conection would be if the security, eg wep or wpa is enabled and the number has not been entered correctly into the network card properties.

You are having hardware communication problems caused, very likely, by driver installation troubles. Go into CONTROL PANEL and then SYSTEM and then DEVICES and look for the scanner there under IMAGING DEVICES and check to see if it has an exclamation mark next to it, or if any other device has this mark, meaning that drivers are not installed for it. If there is no scanner but you have a warning icon labeled UNKNOWN DEVICE, this is the problem. If you find any non-functioning hardware devices, this is probably it.
Try this as a fix. Unplug the cable to the printer/scanner.
Go online to HP and download the latest drivers and utilities for the scanner/printer and save them to your desktop.
In CONTROL PANEL, open ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS. Scan down and remove (uninstall) anything related to the HP printer or scanner, everything. Then reboot. Then install the drivers and utilities on your desktop you saved previously, plugging in the unit when prompted to do so. If you are never prompted, plug it in at the very end when everything is installed. If this routine fails, try rebooting the system without the HP scanner plugged in, wait for a complete start-up, and then plug the scanner into a different USB port and follow the directions on screen taking note of any failure messages. PS: the scanner/printer needs to be powered on through all of this, of course. :>)
