Question about Zebra S4M Thermal Label Printer

1 Answer

LCD said "Head Ele. Bad". After reconnecting the printhead, the massage was gone, but now the printer isn't printing anymore, just empty labels with some black points sometimes. Do we need to change the printhead?

The message shows the printer was powered on with printhead disconnected. The print head is bad and needs to be replaced. Make sure power is off during the installation or it could damage the new printhead.

SOURCE: Printing solid black across the label.

Sounds like a defective printhead.

Reinstall the old one to see if the problem remains or not.

The labels from one of our heat sensitive label printers are unreadable by our barcode scanners.

Unreadable labels are related to the print head, make sure to clean the print head thoroughly with an alcohol swab and make sure the platen roller is clean also. After cleaning and it still is having issues scanner than you have bad sectors on your printhead.

Hope this helps.

I just changed out the print head and upgraded to a 300 dpi print head. Now when I print onto my label (2.5" x 0.75") label about 1/4" at the top of the label is not being used. Is there a configuration...

mmm...didn't think the printheads were interchangable. But the print will be smaller using a 300dpi printhead if you send a format that was designed for a 203dpi printhead. This is because the dots are smaller on the 300dpi. Make sure your formats have been switched to the 300dpi driver.

Hope that helps !

When printing a label on the lp2844 the label look faded

This is very little info, but I will try.
First, have you cleaned the printhead, if not procede as follows: -
Open the printer and with a soft cloth dampened with Isopropyl Alcohol or any clening alcohol gently rub the printhead to remove any built up dirt. If you look closely at the printhead elements, you may be able to see and feel with the pad of your finger any build up, continue to clean until it has gone.DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE A HARD OR SHARP OBJECT TO CLEAN THE PRINHEAD AS THIS WILL DESTROY IT.

Try the print again to see if it has improved.
If not then adjsut the print head heat/contrast settings from either the printer driver or the software you are using to make the labels.

Unfortunately many of the All-In-One devices are like this. If the Cartridges are installed but empty the system is reading that fault code as the Cartridges not being installed. Even though you are not using the ink the printer is most likely doing a light head cleaning when it cycles. Replace teh cartridges and it should clear up.

Brand New but does not work

If it is truly a brand new printer, call the place of business where you purchased it and give them the error message. They will take it back as warranty and get you a new one. Either the printhead is bad, or there is a problem with the MLB.
