How to replace the internal hard drive in a Panasonic dmr-xw300

I received feedback from Panasonic customer service. Their response is that I cannot upgrade the internal HDD to a larger drive because the software is designed to only recognise a 250Gb HDD. The HDD is also specifically designed for video. at the end of the day I have 3 choices. Reformat, replace or purchase a new one.

SOURCE: DMR E80H hard drive

DMR-E80H Hard drive problem seems to pretty common. My drive started making the famaous kerchunk noise tonight. After disassembly I see the drive is a ATA133 Maxtor drive....are you sure that you replaced it with the correct drive? I may contact Maxtor and try to get an RMA since the drive is only 3yrs old. Good Luck

If you haven't done so, try downloading the firmware update from their support site. Burn the update file to a cd-rom.

I have had numerous times where my unit recovered and I had to format the hard drive(losing all of my shows), but since I did the update this has not happened to me again.

SOURCE: my dvd recorder dmr e85 h panasonic dont rec dont

A DVD Recorder needs to play before it can record. Not accessing the hard drive as well indicates a problem with the power supply inside, more than likely. Time for a reputable repair shop.

SOURCE: The DVD player on my Panasonic DVD DMR-EX75 is not

It is up to you, if you are able to obtain a replacement DVD drive for this model series, and it isn't too expensive, go ahead. There may be tips on installing the DVD deck on other forums - or it might be really simple (a DIY job) - or for extra labour costs, a qualified technician can fit it for you in a service centre.

So the short answer is YES it is worth repairing since the HDD is still functioning - if you are concerned about that as well as the DVD drive, get the whole unit assessed by a workshop; they can advise you further.

A second opinion always helps in a case like this, but I would recommend trying to obtain a replacement DVD drive for this model, either locally or by ordering online. This one IS fixable.

DVD disc is stuck in Panasonic DMR-XW300 DVD recorder but somehow child lock is showing. Cannot unlock child lock!

Try pressing and holding the OK (the center button in the arrow key section) and Return (on the lower right of the arrow keys) buttons on the remote control at the same time. You should see the X LOCK message disappear. (Holding these two buttons will toggle the lock on when it is off.) This is shown on page 89 of the manual which is available from Panasonic on the product site: http://www.panasonic.com/au/support/manual-download/players-recorders/video-recorders/dmr-xw300.html . The direct link to the manual is http://www.panasonic.com/content/dam/Panasonic/support_manual/DVD_Recorder/English/rqt9135-l.pdf .

If you are using a universal remote, the code currently in use may not match this feature. Try the original remote if you can. A replacement remote that should match all of the features is here: http://www.tvremotes.com.au/panasonic-remotes/original-panasonic-remote-control-n2qayb000273-dmrxw300gl .

I hope this helps.

My dmr-eh55s will no longer transfer from the hard drive to the DVD in the high speed mode. It will in low speed mode (real time).

It sounds like the DVD-RAM drive is about dead. Panasonic did not make them to be very durable.

Panasonic sells replacements at a high cost.

Replacement drives may work from used models including:
DMR-ES15
DMR-ES25
DMR-ES45
DMR-ES46

Panasonic DMR-EH55 Ram Drive Problem

Do you mean you want to replace the hard drive in the unit? If so, I have one of these units and I installed a new PATA hard drive and then "prepared" it with a firmware update that is available from Panasonic's website. I tried to increase the capacity by installing a 500GB hard drive, and also a 300GB hard drive, but no matter what size I put in, after I initialized the new hard drive with the firmware disc I always only had 92 hours available to me. In fact there was never anything wrong with my unit, I was only trying to increase the capacity for recording - which I was never able to do. I did find that another 200GB hard drive I tried didn't actually work for some unknown reason, but the 500GB, the original 200GB and a 300GB hard drive worked no problem every time I swapped them around. Let me know if you need the link to Panasonic's download - it's easy to find.
