Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Bernina south africa

Hallo i have a small nina mashine. It never gives problems, except today. It doesn't pick up the bottom yarn and thus no stitches are formed. I changed needle and yarn and cleansed the machine and re-spooled the yarn without any success. Please tell me what else I can do to make it work. Maryna

SOURCE: big loops on bottom stitch

You have no top tension. Rethread the top of the machine. Make shure you raise the presserfoot before threading.

SOURCE: Timing for Bernina Virtuosa 153

Timing these machines gets pretty involved such as in just removing the covers. You need a grounding ******** your wrist as the cables all need to be unplugged and you don't want to send a static charge from yourself to the circuit boards. They are expensive. Then you need special sized metal pins to pin several pinning points so the needle, hook, stepping motors and feed dogs all co-ordinate with each other. Also several places need certain guages to set less than .1 millimeter size distances between different places to avoid other problems. You also need several sized torx screwdrivers and the knowledge to adjust the upper and lower tensions. The upper tension alone has at least 3 or four places that need to be in the correct position.
All of the above has to be done in a certain order also.
Its complicated enough. If someone is going to walk you through this over the phone expect it to be complicated. Even if you had a copy of the manual (which could be a copywrite infringment on newer machines) you can expect it to be difficult.
My advice is to leave it to the professionals to have it done right.

SOURCE: BSR skips stitches

Hi, I am a Bernina tech and can tell you what the problem is. The problem is that the spring on your BSR is weak. Bernina has an upgrade to adding a heavier spring that solves this problem. The older lighter springs on the BSR is shiny. The newer heavier updated spring is dark. Ask your dealer/tech to change this spring to a new one or give you a newer updated BSR. Also be sure they updated the BSR to the latest firmware.

SOURCE: needle not picking up bottom thread

Remove the needle plate and the bobbin case.

Ensure that the needle is inserted all the way up into the needle clamp.

Set the machine for straight stitch, center needle position.

Slowly turn the handwheel in the normal sewing direction and observe the following hook timing setting:

When the needle reaches it's lowest point and travels up 3.5mm, the point of the hook should be directly behind the needle, or at least within 1 or 2mm.

Another view is as the hook passes the needle, it should pass the needle slightly above the eye of the needle.

If the timing looks good, use some alcohol on a bit of cloth to clean the hook, careful around the tip of the hook as it is very sharp.

If the hook timing is off, you will need to take it to a knowledgeable service person as there are several possible solutions and several other related adjustments which will need to be made.

We are from South Africa and moved to Canada what do we need to change the volts and hz to use our Bernina Bernette embraudery machine?

probably nothing as they make the machine for the country's utility power supplies
you will have to go to places like JAYCAR to get a step down transformer or go to an electrical retailer to get an inverter to do what you want
go to a sewing machine repair shop and discuss the problem

In the middle of sewing a tricot stretch stitch my Nina (model JE1918) stopped sewing all stitches EXCEPT straight stitch.

there could be a part inside that is damaged or worn,, it would be a good idea to have the sewing machine checked also to see if there is a adjustment need also.

My Nina JE1918 stopped sewing all stitches except straight.

it's possible that the part that sews the other stitches needs to be checked to see if it's worn or damaged.
