SOURCE: Upright freezer not working

Tap on the thermostat , not hard , but not softly either , and see if the freezer starts . If so , replace the thermostat ( the piece behind the temp setting knob )

SOURCE: I Kenmore elite upright freezer

This could be caused by any number of things. Could be a grounded compressor. If you remove all leads from compressor and test from terminal to body of compressor with an ohm meter you should get no reading on your meter. ( or a very high meg ohm reading) If the neutral wire from the cord ( usually white) is in any way touching a grounded component then the GFCI will trip. If you have a bad defrost heater going to ground it could trip the GFCI. I assume this unit has ran on this GFCI before? You could buy a GFCI tester, that will tell you if the GFCI is tripping at the desired mA level. A GFCI should trip between 4-6mA. Have you plugged this freezer into a non GFCI receptacle to see if the unit functions?

You need to replace the defrost thermostat on the unit. You will need to remove the shelves and then the back wall to gain access to it. Here is the part to order.

What should the tempurture control on a 13.7 cu. ft. Kenmore upright , model 253 214 21101 freezer be set at when 3/4 to full be set at?

you will have to play with the adjustment until you get into its range. the load has alot to do with the box temp. I suggest getting a thermometer and try setting the temp to @20-25 degrees and see if that helps

Kenmore Frost Free Comm. Model #253-23425100 - will not stay cold

Two things:

Either the thermostat has inadvertently been turned up, (too warm) or the gas in the compressor tank is low. If it isn't #1, call a repair tech to replentish the has in your compressor. If that isn't it he will tell you what he thinks it is. Good luck!

Use a freezer thermometer and tell me the actual temperature. Or at least store some ice cream and see if it stays brick hard. Unless I have some idea of the actual temp I can't tell if defective freezer or alarm

Freezer runs constantly

not necessarily, is it maintaining temp? all food staying frozen? especially ice creams if stored in there. most newer freezers displace the heat generated while cooling the food through copper lines running through sides of unit, helps to cut down on air temp differences between the inside (0 degrees) and outside temp to prevent moisture and possible condensation causing premature rusting of unit
