Sometimes, the specific brand and manufacturer of the media is an issue, not the DVD+R or DVD-R style.

A lot of the time, a firmware update to the DVD drive allows the DVD writer to work with a broader range of blank media.

Since this model is so old, Packard Bell does not offer firmware updates. If you can identify the manufacturer and model of the DVD drive in the laptop, you may be able to locate a third party firmware installer at places like www.rpc1.org.
