Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
When I turn the shredder on to either Auto, Forward or Reverse, the motor is running and it looks like the little wheels are turning, but it will not pull the paper through

yes, it's the plastic gear that's shredded in this shredder. the drive gear on the motor is metal, as are the gears attached to blades. between is a single plastic gear which is chewed up the instant resistance is great enough. fabulous engineering. not a difficult fix, but where does one find the replacement part?

The switch referred to above is the optical reader. I turned the machine off , and used windex to clean the optical reader area. It works...

That sounds like the safety contact is not always making contact. The shredder has to be placed in the basket properly so that the little metal tab on the inside of the basket engages the safety switch. If not that, then I would suspect the sensor just inside the slot.
