SOURCE: Schwinn S40 DSX part name

Forget new guide wheels. A new rear derailer is the real fix. You will need to order a new one by the number of gears on the rear gear cluster. How the derailer is mounted, Which way it moves when by the spring direction etc... By the way, get a higher quality one than the one you have got. If you go megawheel on the lower guide wheel; which I recommend, you might need a couple more segments in your chain. Yes, you need a new chain. If you wore out a part on you derailer, your chain is getting old. I recently bought a new rear derailure for my wife's bike for 29 bucks at a much better quality than the old one. It does not have problems of getting between gears, clicking etc... like the old one did new.

SOURCE: Adjust Shimano Acera back derailleur

There is a limit screw on the body of the derailleur that you have to back out slightly. You can tell which one of the two it is by watching carefully as you adjust it. It takes a phillips screwdriver.

SOURCE: Alivio 8 speed rear derailleur cable broken

There is a bolt on the derailleur that holds the cable. Loosen it to remove the cable from the derailleur. If there is a cap on the cable, remove it by pinching it with a pair of pliers. i do not know what style shifters you are using, but most all of them have a plastic cap covering the port for the cable. Shift to the highest gear to prep the cable for release and remove the cap. Push the cable back into the shifter and it should come out of the port you opened. Now, slide the new cable in and pull it through its circuit of cable housings and back to the derailleur. Attach the cable and shift to the lowest gear (big cog). Now, pull the cable along the top tube or seat stay (wherever it is more accessible) away from that tube very firmly several times. This pre-stretches the cable and minimizes necessity of adjustment later. The harder you pull, the better. Once you have stretched the cable, shift to the highest gear again and release the cable on the derailleur. Adjust the barrel on the derailleur to the center of its range and turn in the one on your shifter all the way. Now, pull the cable taut and reatach it on the derailleur. You can cut the cable to length and put a cap on it now. Shift into your middle gear and use the barrel adjuster on the derailleur to align the jockey wheel over the appropriate cog of the cassette. You should be all set!

i hope this helps

Can I replace a Shimano RD-TY15 with Shimano Tourney TX?

Main thing with gears is that they have the same number of gears, and that the cage is the same length. Also the RD TY15 has a built in hanger.

The Tourney pictured has a built in hanger (below link) just make sure the replacement does.

Can I replace a Shimano RD-TY15 with a Shimano Tourney TX?

This may be to do with the replacement having a shorter cage, so it can't go on the big sprocket and big chain ring at the same time.

Try to not use the big rear sproket and the the big front chaining at at the same time,

Fitting instructions needed for Shimano Rd-Ty18-6-Gsd Bike Rear Derailleur with Bracket

The semi-circular spacer is what holds the derailleur in the dropout. Take the part that looks like a "C" and line it up on the drop out, the spacer goes on the other side of the dropout. There should be a screw that fastens to the spacer and clamps the derailleur to the drop out.

I have (2003-2005 ?) year model Schwinn Sierra GSX 26" mountain bike. I need a diagram that shows how to route the chain. I had to remove the back tire. Now I can't get the chain to line-up on...

Basically, shift the rear derailleur to the highest (smallest) gear before removing/installing the wheel.
