Question about Canon imageCLASS MF6580 All-In-One Laser Printer

Open Question

Canon MF6580 Multifunction printer. They had a power surge a few weeks back, and ever since then their printer hasn't been fully initializing. After you turn it on, you receive a message saying "download 7701 connected" whenever a USB cable is plugged in. (When the cable is unplugged, it says download paused or something to that effect. After poking around at bit, it would seem that the printer needs a firmware re-flash to get it back up and running (It appears to be that's what it wants to download when the error appears.) However, I can't find the firmware anywhere. Does anybody know where I could get it or how I can solve this problem?

Printer is already discontinued the Canon service. It's much bigger repair price that buying a new one. This is why I will continue trying to repair it.

I think the problem is in reading the firmware at the time on.

SOURCE: Printer will not complete initialization boot

Reset the product
The error message might disappear after you turn off the product and turn it on again. After you make any adjustments to the cartridges or the printhead, reset the product in order for the error message to clear completely. Follow these steps to reset the product.

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  5. Turn on the product by pressing the power button.
Check the product control panel display. If the error message disappears, you are done, and you do not need to remove, clean, and reinstall the printhead.

Hi. This is a firmware related issue.

First check if the firmware posted on HP website for your MFP is newer that the one you currently have, if it is then download and apply the newer firmware.

In case the problem persist, you could also try the following troubleshooting:

Turn off the power by using the power switch, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power and wait for the MFP to fully initialize.

If you have recently installed a memory module in the MFP, turn off the equipment, remove the memory Module, reinstall it and verify that it is seated properly, and then turn on the MFP.

If a surge protector or no-break is being used, remove it. Plug the MFP directly into the wall socket. Use the power switch to turn the MFP on.

If the error persists, contact HP.

Error 50.2 on hp m1522n we turned off then on, but error still continue.

Internal hardware error, specifically the fuser.
Turn off power for at least 30 seconds. Make sure that printer is plugged directly into wall outlet, not a surge protector.
Power up and wait for initialization.
If error persists, you are going to need a tech to look at it.

Remove printer head in PIXMA MX850 when there is no power

You could take it apart to get it out but be aware of the high voltages contained inside printer capacitors. You need to leave it unplugged for at least a week to allow the capacitors to discharge.

The Mx310 will not power on. We had a few bad storms this week but the mx310 is on a surge protected outlet.

Those surge protectors are not really a good protection in heavy storms which means that the power unit did get damahged and therefore you may have to try and obtain a new power unit ... mybe try another unit that you are sure about its working condition to prove the problem. It may even be the printer itself the got damaged

Dead Printer

hi i am a certified Canon repair tech for this printer. these machines are prone to power faluire due to power surges. this machine uses very low DC voltages so when you have even a small AC power surge the eletrictronics in this printer get over charged and they blow. most of the Canon machines that i have seen with no power have been the main logic board at fault not the power supply. if the machines are under 13 months old they are still covered under warrenty. you can call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and they will locate a repair center near you. hope this helps.
