Question about GE VG2042 VHS VCR

1 Answer

Is there a fee for this service?

I posted this problem a couple of days ago. Do I have to join or pay a fee to get possible solutions: ________________________ I have the remote that came with my VG2042 (VSQS1495) and would like to add another component to my system. Do not have the VCR manual. What is the button sequence to search and/or program a code on this remote (am adding a Daytek P-871 DVD player--just in case you may have that code, too). Help! And thanks in advance. Syd

Re: Is there a fee for this service?

I assume you are wanting to use one remote box to control most/all of your equipment? Some remotes have that capability, others do not, as they run only the piece of equip they came with, or perhaps that branded equipment. My suggestion, if you can't come up with instructions for your current remote, is to look into purchasing a universal remote which specifically lists your models of equipment you wish to run. The better ones may also have the capability of doing advanced programming (timed record for example) of your VCR. Look here for codes here- didn't realize such a site existed 'til now:

Rca vcr will not take tape

Thanks for the info! . If you can not set the time using buttons, and it does not respond to the menus via the remote control, and the display flashes dashes, it sounds like your microprocessor (controller) chip has gone bad, and the power-on boot is failing, so nothing happens. . Your VCR is very dead. . It blew a single transistor in a very bad place. . Slipping or broken belts are fixable, broken processors are not. Some other broken parts are fixable, but not many. VCRs were made to be repaired in the old days, but not for long. There is a Johnson VCR repair down the street from me, he keeps old dead ones for parts, so he can fix most anything (people often give him their VCRs for free once they hear what it will cost to fix it). Repairs start at about $250, so I just buy a new one when one of mine fails (I have about 4 of them, 2 of which are dead, and I have fixed two of them). . Note - parts from one model can rarely be used in another model, so a repair shop can only replace parts using parts from other broken machines. The spinny video head is the exception to that rule, and some of the switches too. . VCR repair parts are usually available for 2-3 years, so if it is a recent purchase, you may be able to get it fixed, but VCR parts are a bit like car parts in that the individual parts would cost way more than the VCR cost, without including labor fees to put them together. . If you just bought it, return it. . If you have a warranty, use that (if you want to pay their fees for S&H and there may be an additional fee).

Sony uvw 1600 betacam sp does not power up

Check the power supply area for the fuses for one. Second, the power supplies in these units are switch mode supplies that require a jump start from a small cap. It is possible that the "starter cap" is defective. There are other reasons for this type of behavior as well. Keep us posted on what you find.

My vcr is locked

this used to happen to me years ago and hasnt happened again until today. I know there is a button to press and hold, but I dont remember which one it is. One solution I know works but can be a pain in the ass is to unplug it for a few minutes and when you plug it back in it SHOULD be free of the lock

Sudden eject of the tape

Hi, This sounds like a mechanical problem. The tape is not fully extended over the video head or the two arms spreading the tape over the path is not fully extending. This is normally caused by a small belt slipping. The belt couples a small motor (near the right side of the head) and a pulley/gear combo that drives the spreading arm along its path taking the tape with it. It's a tight squeeze but if you can manage to extract the belt and replace it, then this should do the trick. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. good luck and kind regards.
