My xbox 360 won't even start up/turn on

Make sure you check that your USB ports don't have a bent pin shorting to ground.
That was the problem for me

If the unit wont power on, and the power brick has power and is lit up green, the issue is likely a failing voltage regulator transistor. The P/N of the transistor is MMBT3906LT1 and it can be replaced at home with a small soldiering iron and some care. Look up the transistor part number. There of plenty of location guides and sources to buy it on line. They are all of a few dollars.

it might not be the power supply it might be the consele it self

well mine did the same thing wouldnt cut on then i unpluged the cord from the big box and pluged it bak on and it wurked

Mine would not turn on either, all I did was unplug the power brick from the powerstrip I had it in and put it directly in the wall outlet.

If you're talking about your hard drive (attaches to the top of the machine), then take it out and use a memory card. If it's a memory card... then you may need to replace it.

Its more than likely that one or both your USB ports are damaged in that the pins have bent (useally kids forcing USB's in to hard with no care in the world). With a small screw driver seperate the pins its unlikely that you will be able to use these port/ports again, unless replaced. My problem was solved.

My Xbox didn't turn on and the power brick was displaying an orange light. After I plugged the power cord in it turned red.

My two USB ports were housing 2 of the Plug in Charge cables for my wireless controllers. After unplugging those and plugging the power cord back in it booted up.

Yeah i had that same problem. I was unplugging it and plugging it in and there seemed to be no clear problem. BUT! i got it working by blowing into the bit that goes into the xbox on power supply and the xbox bit itself. after a good blow it worked fine. Musta been a bit dusty :)

This is a repeat of a previously made solution.Try to unplug anything that's in you usb slots.For me it worked when i unplugged my charger for my controller and it terned on for me!!! TY im book marking this sight.

Just had the same problem and per another user it was a USB port. One port had the plastic "fin" broken off and one of the pins was touching the side. Bent it back and put a piece of tape over it so they won't try to use it again. Any USB hub will work with the xbox.

This has occured many times in the past for me and I have found that it works kind of in reverse to when it overheats while playing and freezes up.. if your system is too cold when you try to turn it on then it sometimes will not boot up.. my advice? Place your Xbox 360 in a warmer environment (not to hot or you'll damage it) and after a few minutes try to turn it on again... this becomes a problem for Xbox Arcade systems especially around this time of the year (or that has been my experience anyway)..

Again, try warming your 360 up a little bit. DO NOT put it in the microwave or oven, i'm sorry I shouldn't even have to say this but there are people out there who would do that.. just place it in a slightly warm room with a heater or place it under a blanket (make sure the power is off.. it doesn't have to be on to warm up)

If its brandnew i dont know what the problem is but to fix one that has stopped turrning on after you have moved it or somthing then first check the indicator light on the powersupply
now if its orange then its on standby meaning it operational and waiting on xbox response.
and you press the button and it does not turn on. this means the problem is most likely bbetween the xbox and powersupply. so what i did is keep pressing the power button while moving the cord around near the ends and such. YAAA it turned on

hi, iv had the RROD twice in 2 years & fixed it myself (HAPPY GAME DAYS)till now.
its happend again, on repairing it this time i forgot to connect the fan to the motherboard & switched it on, the fan started pulsating then the brick turnd RED.

What i would do is try a friends power cord or one from a different console and see if that solves the problem... if not you best bet would be to send it in, or even better try to experiment and come up with different solutions and then post it here =P cuz this seems to be a common problem with some people.

Power unit is broken. Google "xbox technical error" and read the details about the industries most underreported engineering malfunction since the failure rate of heating lamps!

put your legs over the xbox so you share your heat with it then move the power cable around and keep pressing the power button trust me i just did it then

that same thing happened to me yesterday. I took alll the cords out. blew in them and the back of the xbox. go figure. it started working.

my xbox stopped working it didnt turn on, i took it a part put thermal grease on all of the processors in the back of the other mother bored and in front under the hit sinks. after that it started to work but first i had to take care of the three red light problem.

i was playing on my xbox and everything was fine and then the next day i was going to go on it and when i pressed power nothing happened. the light on the power box is orange and ive tryed a differant cable but still nothing has any one any ideas on what i should do
