Question about GE GSD5320DBB Dishwasher
After washing a load of dishes I still have water left in the bottom of the dishwasher. I have tried running several cycles and the water still does not drain. I read the manual and it talks about an air gap. I don't seem to have one or not one like the one shown in the manual. Is there somewhere else I can look for a clogged drain? Will I have to take the dishwasher out to find it? It is just me and I am not sure I can do that? Any help is appreciated.
This machine has two poorly designed "Check flapper valves" when they age, they distort or break. These valves are made out of rubber gasket type material. They are supposed to stop backflow of water from the drain hose. The water that should be draining out mostly circulates inside the dishwasher. Thus, water is left in the dishwasher. Sadly there are other parts in the machine that wear out as well. It is too bad because the machine was designed to be very quiet, which it was, but has engineering features that could have been much better.

If there is no air gap (silver cap) located on your sink next to your faucet, you could have a clog in the drain line or at the drain port at the motor/pump assembly. Also, check to see if the drain hose (under sink) has a loop in it before it goes to the disposal or pipe. If there is no loop, water could be backing up into the tub.

Your disposal may be clogged or bad.

I just took mine apart (bottom turntable, screen, etc.) and I was disgusted by the grime and gum that was clogging everything. I think it was keeping all the water a gritty white, which constantly left residue. I am currently running a load... hope that the "clean" dishwasher actually washes my dishes now!
