Question about GE Freezer EZ Set Control - WR55X11084

Open Question

I have a GE freezer FUF17SVARWW that has an Electronic Temperature Control mounted on the exterior door. The interior light is intermittent (it either flickers or is off) and when I open the door the freezer fan if running stops and the Temperature Control "Hi Temp" and "Door Open" red lights come on and the display jumps from 4 to 8. When I close the door the Temp Control red lights go off and the display goes back to 4 which I have it set to and the fan comes back on. The interior cooling is fine. Every so often when I open the door the freezer behaves properly. I've tried disconnecting the power cord and then reconnecting it--no changes. THANKS

SOURCE: Freezer defrosted and the motor won't start back up.

From what I can gather, you have a self defrosting freezer and the "motor" you speak of is the fan inside the freezer. If this is correct, do this:
Unplug freezer. Unload all food into coolers or other freezer space. Leave freezer door open for a day to allow it to manually defrost. Plug freezer back in after minimum 24 hours and confirm fan running and cooling before loading back up with food.

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

SOURCE: my GE freezer stopped cooling. I turned it off,

Hi
I think the problem you are experiencing might be due to the temperature control.
1. Check if the temperature control is off if you dont hear the freezer operating.

2.If you do not see an interior light, when you open the door, then make sure the freezer is properly plugged into an electrical outlet.

3.Move the temperature level to a colder level if the freezer is not cold enough.Warm weather can also be a factor.

4.Find the condenser and check to see if it needs to be cleaned. The condenser is located behind the decorative paneling at the bottom of the freezer.

5.If it doesnt work still then contact a technician.

From what I read, the "L." that you see on the control panel indicated that the controls have been locked. According to the manual if you hold down the "alarm reset" button for 3 seconds the "L." will disappear allowing you to control the temperature again. I don't as of yet know what is causing your overall problem though...

I would replace the defrost termination thermostat. They were a frequent failure item on
Frigidaire units I service, causing this condition. Around 8 to 20 dollars depending on
vendor. Also check the defrost timer as I have found at least one that was stuck due to
mis assembly. (the replacements are from a different vendor). Hope this helps.
