Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You will need to remove the unit from the ceiling to reveal the battery compartment on the back. It should just need to be rotated counter clockwise a small amount and will then come loose from the bracket. When installing a new battey be sure to press the battery reminder finger down into the battery compartment or the battery door will not close. If it only beeps once and then pauses, the batteries are suspect. The batteries should be replaced twice each year. I like to change them when we change the clocks back and forth.
I hope that this helps.
Hint you can test them with a match (blow it out) and let the smoke rise into the detector. I recommend that this be done at lease once a year.
Hope this helps

Can you pleas ensure that you have cleaned the unit as well. If it is not broken, that would be the probable cause. You can ask your local fire dept. to assist. They do that for free :-)

SOURCE: how to fix detector
You don't mention how old the detector is. If it is more than 5 years old the detector may be beeping to indicate the end of its service life. A smoke detector can last much longer but carbon monoxide detectors have a limited life span. If putting in new batteries doesn't fix the problem then most likely you will need to replace it.
