Uniden 8855 Handset won't turn on - new battery

Hi,

I have a Uniden 8855 Which is has a major problem. I cannot get the handset the turn on. It displays the uniden logo, then turns off & on over and over again. All functions on the base unit work. I can't find the receipt, the Serial number is 54001952, I am not sure if I have any warranty left on it.

I hope you can help me. It cost a lot of money for a phone. You'd hope it would last longer than this.
