Formatting a hard drive

I have an ASUS F3F laptop. I need to reformat the hard drive and do not have the manual to tell me how to do it. I don't know enough to just click on a link on the computer and hope for the best. Could you please run me through the steps i need to reformat my hard drive and restore to the original factory condition? Also, i am running Vista and got no discs with the laptop itself. Does this mean that the actual program is located in the computer itself? I hope you can help me. thank you so much

I am trying to downgrade from Vista to XP. Per the instructions I put in the Vista disk and I was doing fine until I got to the command format c:. I put that in and then it asked me for a volume name. It said if you don't know the volume name then type voland at the prompt X:\Sources>. When I did that it said that was not a valid entry. I can't get past this no matter what I do. Please help!

When you install your new or existing operating system it will ask weather you would like to format and install, say yes and it will ask you what kind of format and partition etc. it will solve your problem, there is no seperate formating. but first change in your cmos setup boot through cd rom then continue ok.

Hi, I can help you with this. You will need the vista dvd to put vista back on your computer after formating it. Right now Vista is installed on you laptop. If you have a restore cd then we can proceed, if not you will need to buy a vista disk before we reformat. Let me know what yuo want to do.

You will need to boot from the restore disc to accces the format options. It should ask you to press any key to boot from the cd. From there you will need to follow the onscreen instructions to complete the format. If you have questions about any steps or screens during the reformat process let me know.

    Good Luck

No windows xp

You will have to reformat it again. its likely a bad sector has been created on the hard disk, and windows file is probably occupying the bad sector. Try to reformat your hard drive. If that doesn't work, try to reformat it with windows 98 bootable disk. If it doesn't work, get another hard drive and test to see if it will work. If that works, then know you may have lost the MBR (Master boot Record) of your hard drive.

That message is when you have your computer set to network boot. You can disable it in the bios or change the boot order to put network after hard drive. Press probably Delete when booting to get into your bios and look for Boot Order.
