You can either source a new LCD from ebay or a parts website or you can buy a new laptop. Repairing/Replacing the LCD will take about 1-3 hours depending on what you know about computers. Purchasing a new one is a much easier route.

SOURCE: Blank LCD Screen

Well, sounds like a couple of things if an external monitor works. First, toggle a couple of times between lcd and external just to make sure that it's not set to external only.
If that's no help, look closely at the lcd while the operating system is running. Can you see any image at all? If so (or if not) you have a bad inverter (we have them at the shop for around 25.00). The other possibilities are a bad backlight (which means a new lcd, about 75.00) or it's possible the lcd cable has simply came loose from it's socket.
That's about all it could be on these models if you're getting an external image. I'm using a T30 right now. They tend to have bad memory slots, but great machines.
Good luck

I have a problem with my hp laptop monitor's hinges, could you link where you were able to purchase those hinges?

Also, make sure you monitor's ribbon cable isn't missing any wires or that all of those wires are fully contacting.

I HAVE POSTED THE SOLUTION FOR THIS BEFORE. ON THE LEFT REAR THE SCREW FROM BOTTOM OF UNIT TO THE LCD. LOOK INSIDE WHERE THE TOP AND BOTTOM GO TOGETHER YOU WILL SEE A PIECE OF ALUMINUM TAPE IF IT STICKS OUT PAST THE BOSS TOWARD THE PC BOARD. WHEN YOU MOVE LCD THERE IS ENOUGH FLEX FOR IT TO SHORT TO PC BOARD. TRIM THIS OFF AND YOUR PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVED. CAUTION REMOVE BATTERY AND UNPLUG FROM AC BEFORE THE ABOVE. BOBBY

Dropped my laptop now 1 half of my screen is white and the other half is fine

Hardware damage

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the netbook.
The VGA port is on the Left Rear side.

This is an example of a VGA Cable, and VGA connector,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Scroll down a little for the VGA Cable example.
NOTE* Color does Not matter. Usually it is Blue. Can be Black or White in color.

You can use a CRT type of monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type of monitor allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.
By factory default the display should show on the external monitor.

However there are at LEAST 3 display options available;

A) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
B) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
C) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key, (Bottom left corner of Keyboard), and at the SAME time tap once on the F4 key.
(The F4 key is the Display Toggle-Over key)

No display on external VGA monitor?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F4 key.

Display good on the external monitor? Fine. Your graphics chipset is good. Problem lays within the Display Assembly, (LCD screen, Display Cover, etc), or the Video Cable.

Also posted in case you do not repair the netbook, or repair is set for a later date. This way you can at least use the netbook at home.

Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

Video Cable:
The video cable attaches to the motherboard, in the upper left area near the left Hinge.
It then leads under the left Hinge, and up into the Display Assembly.

(LCD screen/ Display Cover, Display Bezel, etc. is the Display Assembly)

From there it connects to the back of the LCD screen.
(The Mini 110-3135dx has LED backlighting, and does not use a screen Inverter )

Just due to normal opening, and closing of the laptop, the Display Panel Cable, (HP for Video Cable), can be pulled on.

This means the connection of the Display Panel Cable, at the motherboard side could have been pulled loose, or at the LCD screen side.

It can also damage the tiny wires inside the Display Panel Cable.

From your description, it sounds like the Display Assembly was open, when it landed.
Display Panel Cable connections should be PHYSICALLY, plugged in to ensure the connections are tight.

A visual examination will NOT do.
Connection on the motherboard side AND -> LCD screen side.

If there is visual signs of damage to the Display Panel cable's sheath, also suspect damage to the tiny wires inside the Display Panel Cable. (Stretched/Broken)

Check the connections first. You can leave the laptop partially disassembled, and check, before putting it back together.

If physically checking, by trying to plug the two connections of the cable in, does no good, you have to suspect if the Display Panel Cable may be damaged.

A continuity check with a multimeter set to OHMs, and checking each wire in the cable, is the next step of the diagnosis.
You can take the cable down to the nearest 'Mom and Pop' computer store, and have the tech check it for a few dollars.

Or due to the price of a replacement you may just wish to replace, and see if that was the problem.

The HP part number is HP 607755-001.

HOWEVER, this is supposed to be for a kit that contains 3 cables.
1) LCD Cable (Display Panel Cable)
2) Webcam Cable
3) Power Cable.

[ Power Cable:
The DC Power Jack is the jack on the laptop, that you plug the AC adapter ( Charger ), into.
The DC Power Jack is NOT soldered to the motherboard, with this model.

Instead it is soldered to a cable of wires, and the wires end in a plug.
The plug is unplugged from the motherboard, and the entire assembly is replaced as a unit. (It's a Power Jack Harness, really)

DC Power Jacks get broken. This one will be easy to replace ]

Check the part number on your Display Panel Cable, and see if it matches up to the one you are going to buy, is the best method however.

Display Panel Cable checks out OK, or you have replaced it, and it doesn't solve the problem, the problem is the LCD screen.

Again, in my searching of the LCD screen replacements, I found they all use LED lighting for your model. (Mini 110-3135dx)
LED backlighting as a rule now, does Not use a screen Inverter.

Could I be wrong, and your laptop does indeed have a screen Inverter?
Only you will know once you open the Display Assembly, and check the Display Panel Cable connection at the back of the LCD screen.

If a screen Inverter is used it will be in the Display Assembly.
A screen Inverter could easily have been damaged in a fall, and a bad screen Inverter COULD show the results you stated.
I say -> COULD.

I believe the Display Panel Cable connection may be loose at the motherboard side, and/or LCD screen side, or it may be damaged.
If not I believe the LCD screen is the problem.

To check the Display Panel Cable on the motherboard side, for this model, you have to remove the Top Cover. (HP for Palm Rest Cover)
This means the Static sensitive hardware components for the laptop, will be exposed.

This means you NEED to wear an ESD wrist strap, once the Top Cover is removed.
BEST method however is to just put it on BEFORE starting to disassemble. This way you do not forget, and have a Static shocked laptop, that is only going to be good enough for a DOORSTOP.

One example,

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245

The alligator clip needs to be connected to a good ground source.
I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.

You can also set a large metal serving tray (Unpainted), on the table you're working on, and connect to it.
Or a large metal knickknack. (Unpainted)

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini. When i turn it on the desktop wont show. All i get is a black screen.

This might be a sign of a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

Test with an external monitor attached to the laptop. If you get display on the external monitor, then this confirms the case.

The screen on my hp mini 110 went white

A white LCD screen can be caused by (likeliness):

1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard.

A local computer repair store should be able to fix this for you.

I have a fine horizontal line running 2/3rd's of my hp mini note book.should i be concerned?

This could be a hardware issue with the LCD screen of display card. To confirm the same, connect an external monitor and check if the same line appears on external monitor. If external mitor works fine, then its a LCD defect. If you have same issue on both LCD and External monitor, then it could be due to display card. In either cases you may need to take to service center.

My Pres C300 laptop works fine with an attached monitor. But its own LCD screen is currently having 3 equal horizontal sections. First (top) section is normal, second flickers and is normal when pressed,...

Hello,

Since the laptop works fine with an attached monitor, it means the problem is the inverter.

The problem with your laptop screen is that the inverter is malfunctioning, that is why you have those three equal horizontal sections.

Change the inverter of your laptop screen and you will see that the screen will be stable back.

Take care.

Hp pavilion dv4 screen will not work. everything

Few trouble shoot solution when it comes to these HP Laptop from 08-09.

1). Remove battery and ram. Plug in AC Adapter and insert only ONE RAM into a slot. Boot up and see if this will turn on display (it work on a HP Dv4-1225dx) IF it works then shut down and re insert the two ram and should be good to go :)

2). If your tech savvy remove keyboard and gain access to LCD flex ribbon cable to check if cable is loose (or go on a limb and replace the lcd flex cable ). I would detach it and re attach the ribbon back to motherboard. ( This happen sometimes by chance)

3). Your LCD is shot dead so it will need to be replaced. Current used LCD can range from $40-$50 and new ones with warranty $60-$100. HP is set up for easy LCD removal so shouldn't take more then 30mins to replace, just be careful when handling the ribbon and inverter cables.

GOOD LUCK

Gateway flat LCD dead

I'm not sure if your referring to the lcd monitor (gateway brand) or a laptop's lcd screen not working anymore.

1. if it's an lcd monitor...
a. test monitor in a different pc before assuming the problem is the lcd screen
b. replace the monitor if after testing monitor is in deed the item failing.

2. if it's the lcd screen from your gateway laptop.
a. you may be able to attach a regular analog monitor to the paralel port on your gateway.. test and see if the monitor that you attach will give you a picture (you may have to toggle with some some keys on your laptop keyboard to make have the signal going to the "externa" or attached monitor.
if the other monitor does not work either.. you video controller on your motherboard on your laptop may be failing and you may not have other options that to replace your laptop.
b. if the external/attached monitor works.. very likely the problem is the lcd screen for that you need to get a replacement and you may have to contact gateway to find out about pricing (or places to send your laptop for service if you're still within warranty). if you have an old laptop you may have to considere simply replacing the unit as buying a new lcd screen may very likely be more expensive than the same working laptop.
