Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

I have always found ss64.com helpful. Remember some commands vary by which version of Windows you are using and what resource kits may be installed. http://ss64.com/nt/

List of cmd commands

Type "help" and hit enter. CMD will give you all the commands and a description of what they do. What you need to do to fix the issue depends on what is missing.

And going from Vista to 8 should be a clean install anyway to avoid....well this.

Run System File Checker (SFC) to check if Windows Vista system files are corrupted.
1. Click Start, type "cmd" (without the quote) in the Start Search bar, right-click cmd.exe and click run as administrator.
2. Input the following commands and press Enter after each line.
sfc /scannow
Note: There is a SPACE between "SFC" and "/Scannow". This command will take several minutes to complete.
Restart the computer.

Sounds like your boot files are corrupt or some system files are corrupt. You can try clicking Start/All Programs/Accessories and look for the CMD (command) Prompt. If you don't see it you can click the RUN and in the box type cmd and press enter. A black window should appear allowing you to type in commands. Type the following command: sfc /scannow (which is the system file checker and let it run). When it finishes, try rebooting. If you still have the problem type the following command: chkdsk /r
The Check Disk command might tell you that volumes are locked or that it will run the next time you restart your computer. In either event it's safe to click yes or ok to let it run. It will run for an hour or more and you will notice the percentage of completion going from high to low but that is ok. Just be patient and let it run until it finishes then reboot.

Assuming this is a Microsoft Windows system...

Click on Start

Then either Run (Windows XP)

Or just type into the dialogue box above the Start button (Windows 7)

Type in: CMD and press Enter

In the black window next to the >

Type in ipconfig /all and press Enter

In the output look for the Physical Address in the 12 character alpha-numeric format of:

xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx

This is the MAC address
