If the strap or cord actually broke, you have to know what you are doing. The strap attaches to the mainspring which needs the proper tension by how many winds you give it. This can be a bit tricky and even risky if you don't know what you are doing. The strap connects to a pin or ear of sorts on the right underside of the carriage. Hope this helps.

Our hp7140xi fax maching has a error message saying carraige error close door and press enter and does not work please help

Follow this document

After following the document if the issue is not fixed, try this final step

1. Disconnected power cord from back of printer ( while printer is Power on)
2. Press and Hold # and 6 Button together
3. While holding the button, connect the power cord
4. Leave the #6 button after 5 seconds.
5. Follow the instructions to align the printer.

( Hopefully this should fix the issue, else consider your printer as broken unit which cannot be fixed )

If you still get the error message, Your printer is broken. Contact and enter 7140xi in product and choose chat or email to let HP know the issue.

Printer Carrier Stall

You may have had a foriegn object fall inside the printer such as a pen or paper clip. You may also have a broken sensor which enables the carraige to move to the centre when the lid is open. You can try and carefully move the carraige over manually when the printer is turned off to see if there is something blocking its path. If the sensor is broken you can replace the cartridges by moving the carraige over when turned off.

Underwood no. 5 typewriter doesn't advance when hit keys

the cord is shaped much like a shoe lace, and these make great replacements, a spare clip can be fashioned out of a paper clip, it's not a precision part. the spring if broken can be replaced with any clock style spring, i bought a wind up kitchen timer at the dollar store (same for the shoe lace) and took the spring from that. for $2.14, got mine working good as new

When printing the printer is making a grinding noise

Hi there,

Usually on these printers, when this happens, it's caused by a couple things:

1. there's a broken gear, or broken teeth on a gear.

2. The carraige can't sense it's home position ( more usual )

3. The ink overflow resevior has filled up and is spilling into the gear/carraige assm.

the first thing I would do is this:

when you open up the top of the printer ( with the power off ), above the metal carrage bar, you'll see what looks like a grey plastic strip. with a paper towel and some cleaning solution ( I suggest windex ), wipe that strip down, as it is probably covered with ink, and then try again. I would also try putting a drop or 2 of machine oil on the metal carraige bar to help it move smoothly.

if that doesn't work, then honestly there's not much you can do - HP stopped making replacement parts for inkjets about 5 years ago, and you could buy a new deskjet printer for what it would cost to attempt to fix this one.

Warm regards,

Replacing carraige in dewalt nailer

Be sure that the driver piece is in position. When replacing the actuation arm (the part with the spring), slide the driver down the nose piece as if it were driving a nail. This will allow you to slip the actuation arm down into place.

A couple things to check, lift the cover and make sure there is nothing obstructing the carrier from moving completely to the left. Also make sure your correction tape is not interfering with the print wheel. Try taking both the ribbon and correction tape out and see if the machine will go to ready. If this does not help let me know and we can check a couple other things, But try that first. John
