Question about Transcend StoreJet Computers & Internet
I connected my HDD StoreJet J25A3K a front USB panel and after that, Windows and Linux do not recognize. On Windows it's shown as Unknown device.
Unplug it, and restart the computer then plug it again in another USB port. Install the Windows drivers or any software that came with the HDD. What type of formatting does the HDD have? Linux file systems are not necessarily recognized by Windows based systems.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the reply, but still does not work."
With the device plugged in, open your device manager. The device should show a yellow exclamation mark next to it. Select it and delete it.
Unplug the device.
Power the computer completely off.
Plug the device into a different USB port (one you know works)
Boot it back up
If this doesn't fix it, repeat the process a few times with different ports and also using a different USB cable, if you have one.
If this still doesn't work, the troubleshooting gets significantly more complex.

Does you drive make any sounds like these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it. If not - try to remove the drive from USB casing and connect it directly to your PC or put into another USB enclosure. This should help if the problem is with the enclosure itself and not with the drive.

I have solved a similar problem to this. My laptop would not allow me to get to my WD Passport. The driver was fine and no errors were reported - it recognised the drive when I ran the hardware removal utility - I just couldn't see it from any of my windows applications and therefore couldn't get to any data.
The problem was that the passport was being designated as E:\ but my laptop already has a network drive mapped to E:\. When I am in the office the computer connects the network drive to E:/ and so my passport automatically picks the next available letter - F:\. Away from the office, the network drive is still buit shows as "disconnected network drive" and somehow the laptop gets confused into designating both the the passport and the disconnected network drive to the same letter. so the passport is not visible in My Computer.
To fix it I went to My Computer, right clicked on the disconnected network drive and select Disconnect from the options there. And hey presto the passport appeared!
You can see which letter your USB HDD is assigned in the device manager in XP. Right click on the device and go to the Volumes tab - click on Populate and the drive letter should be shown there. If that doesn't match what you see under that letter in My Computer it looks like you have a similar problem & so disconnecting whatever is there in My computer might help.

Hi, Take the drive to a pc store and ask the techs to move the HDD into a new shell and test it for you. Most likely it's ok and you can just buy a new shell/enclosure for it. If that doesn't work it may need the help of a recovery pro. If that's the case comment back here with your country/state/city and I'll pass on a recommendation for a nearby facility that can assist you in retrieving the files. Chris
