I see no diagram. There is a problem of formulation here.
If DE is parallel to XY, that supposes that DE and XY are two segments (or lines, or rays). But if you use the symbol X to represent a point in a plane you cannot use the same symbol to represent a measure (value).
You should read carefully the problem you are asked to solve. And if you need some help please do not assume that the person who reads the question knows what you are talking about. Unless you express it completely and clearly.
Try again.

Estimate the distance across a lake if CD=30m, DE=20m, and AC=60m given that line AB is parallel to line DE.

Without knowing anything about where point C is, or how the two lines relate to the lake, that's an impossible question to answer. How about providing a diagram?

You can use the following website to solve all alegbra problems

In mathematics, an absolute value is a function which measures the "size" of elements in a field or integral domain. More precisely, if D is an integral domain, then an absolute value is any mapping | ⋅ | from D to the real numbers R satisfying:
  • | x | ≥ 0,
  • | x | = 0 if and only if x = 0,
  • | xy | = | x || y |,
  • | x + y | ≤ | x | + | y |.
Note that some authors use the term valuation or norm instead of "absolute value".
