Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a customer with a Canon MF6580 Multifunction printer. They had a power surge a few weeks back, and ever since then their printer hasn't been fully initializing. After you turn it on, you receive a message saying "download 7701 connected" whenever a USB cable is plugged in. (When the cable is unplugged, it says download paused or something to that effect. After poking around at bit, it would seem that the printer needs a firmware re-flash to get it back up and running (It appears to be that's what it wants to download when the error appears.) However, I can't find the firmware anywhere. Does anybody know where I could get it or how I can solve this problem?

I have read the technical manual, I have not found anything that references this error "Download".
Printer is already discontinued the Canon service. It's much bigger repair price that buying a new one. This is why I will continue trying to repair it.
I think the problem is in reading the firmware at the time on.
I have the SST-upgrade-tool but can not find any version of firmware for the printer charge. Does anyone know or have where I could find this firmware?.
If I find a correct firmware version, see if this is the solution.

The most possible site would be the cannon site for error codes, services and firmware upgrade.

I've seen quite a few instances similar to yours with HP's bigger MFP's
If it is in a surge protector:
Remove it and plug it into a wall outlet directly.
If not:
Swap outlets to confirm it's not the outlet itself on the way out.
and or test the outlet for proper voltage.

HP recommends plugging it directly into a wall outlet, and never into a surge protector.

Remove printer head in PIXMA MX850 when there is no power

You could take it apart to get it out but be aware of the high voltages contained inside printer capacitors. You need to leave it unplugged for at least a week to allow the capacitors to discharge.

The Mx310 will not power on. We had a few bad storms this week but the mx310 is on a surge protected outlet.

Those surge protectors are not really a good protection in heavy storms which means that the power unit did get damahged and therefore you may have to try and obtain a new power unit ... mybe try another unit that you are sure about its working condition to prove the problem. It may even be the printer itself the got damaged

Printer won't turn on ( mx850 )

I believe the fix is to disconnect power cord for an hour or so.
This is truly maddening... it's a bug in the design of their power supply.  It's happened to me three times in the past few months.
The first time it happened, I haplessly stumbled onto the solution wisdos mentioned (unplugging it for a while) without realizing it.  I thought it just started working for no apparent reason.
The second time I tried all sorts of tricks (not remembering the fact that I'd disconnected the power for a period), spoke with Canon support several times and finally had to agree to have them send me a replacement printer.
I'll skip the part about not being able to get the old printer's print head and inks out to put in the new one because it wouldn't budge without the power being on.
Now, with second printer and a five-second power failure, the same deal... won't turn on.  This time I pulled the power cord from the printer and let it sit for a few hours.  Plugged it back in and it came on.
The maddening thing is that Canon support didn't want to escalate this to someone who might understand the power supply and diagnose the problem properly... their solution was to send out a new printer.  What a waste of time, money, and effort.

Dead Printer

hi i am a certified Canon repair tech for this printer. these machines are prone to power faluire due to power surges. this machine uses very low DC voltages so when you have even a small AC power surge the eletrictronics in this printer get over charged and they blow. most of the Canon machines that i have seen with no power have been the main logic board at fault not the power supply. if the machines are under 13 months old they are still covered under warrenty. you can call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and they will locate a repair center near you. hope this helps.
