Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

On my Kenmore model 59669932011, with the freezer at the bottom, there is sort of a "hissing" sound coming from the freezer a few times during the day. Why is that? It seems normal, but where does it come from?

The unit has an auto defrost and when it turns on, there is a heating coil that gets red hot like a stove burner. It melts the ice on the evaporator coils. That is the sound that you are hearing.

I was having similar problems and my friend told me she called refrigerator repair in Las Vegas, NV and that it helped her out a lot so I'll probably try out the place she used.

Makes a hissing sound in the freezer side and i see a puddle of water at the back

Defrost heater may be getting defrosted ice on it causing the sound because it's hot. It won't hurt anything. The water from the melted frost drains out a drain hole at the bottom of the freezer. If it gets stopped up it will come out the freezer door onto the floor.

Inside of freezer on the bottom on the back lit up red as though on fire, heard a hissing sound as though water was leaking on hot surface. whats happing?

It's defrosting. Depending on your make and model, it'll do that a couple of times a day. There is a heating element behind that panel that's on a timer. The element looks like a bake element in an electric range, sort of. It's doing what it should be doing. The hissing is the frost/ice being melted off of the evaporator and dripping onto the element. All normal.
The end.

Hello,

You need to check for the refrigerator level, drain pan, condenser fan, evaporator fan and inspect the compressor mounts for the cause of noise. Any popping or hissing sound is normal on frost free refrigerators.

Good luck

Hissing inside the freezer

This is 100% normal, the element is there to get red hot and defrost all the ice off the freezer Evaporator, if you touch it you'll burn your finger. It's called a defrost element and comes on for upto 30mins every 6-12hours depending on the timer. Without it the freezer would be a block of useless ice cheers

Water leaking into freezer

It may be the defrost thermostat. This thermostat turns on a heater in the freezer a couple of times a day and melts the ice in the freezer which should go into a tube that leads to a pan underneath the refrigerator, where it sits and evaporates from the heat of the compressor. It could also be the timer which tells the refrigeator to turn off a couple of times a day and tells the defrost thermostat to turn on.

Loud shreaking sound coming from Kenmore Frost Freezer.

The fan behind the molding is hitting some ice build up and causing the sound. Sounds like the timer for the defrost isn't working. Try to turn off the unit for few hours or take off the molding in the freezer compartment and remove the ice build up with hair dryer.
