Question about Dyson DC14 All floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
There's no switch per sey, but there is a clutch activation knob, on the right side of the base, as you're standing behind the unit. There should be a Carpet or Hard floor setting, just two. Twist it to change from one to the other. However, all this is meant to do, as far as I know, is to turn on the brush roll or turn it off, by means of a clutch system. I don't think it has anything to do with the wand assembly.

Ours did the same thing. I cleaned the filter and canister thoroughly. It needed to be cleaned, but that didn't fix the problem. I removed the plate under the carpet brush bar (three quarter-turn screws) and removed all hair, lint and threads from the rollers and brush. THEN my husband found the real problem: a piece of flexible hose running from the head into the hose (on the left side when behind the vacuum) was completely clogged. The hose will detach from the head, and you can remove debris. Once that clog was removed, the hose easily re-attaches, and we had great suction once again.

My Dyson DC14 had no suction...see if this works...turn the Dyson upside down...there is a length of hose that connects the bottom of the vacuum to the top, careful remove one end of the hose and check for debris...mine was clogged. Removed the clog and voila...it works. Thanks for the above info on checking the hose for cracks.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.
It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

I'm sorry to hear your DC28 doesn't seem to be working correctly. It sounds as though the change-over valve may be jammed - this diverts the suction to the hose when you remove the wand, and back to the cleaner head when you replace the wand on your machine.
