Hi, I recently moved and one of my helpers dumped all of my power supplies in a box. I can't tell which one goes with my monitor, my speakers, or even my external drive dock. Help please!

Your power supplies will have a brand name on them, they will also be a certain size and shape at the connecting end, eventually you will 'scooby doo' what goes where

Testimonial: "Thanks so much. The brand names don't help and they all 'fit' but I'll keep trying since I figured out that speakers take 12v and for the others I'll just start at the lowest. At least you got me thinking. Much gratitude!!!"

Each device should have the power requirements on a label, as should each power supply. Nothing should be more than 1/2 volt difference. For instance, some computers taking a 18.5v power source will be shipped with a 19v. Test fit the sockets before plugging anything into the wall.

Monitor won't power up the indicator just blinks on and off different monitor on the same computer works fine

Hello Sir, hi, your monitor is on standby mode, which means the power supply cannot power up the main circuit board, this is mainly cause by a shorted component that need to be analyzed and replaced, This symptom can also be cause by a defective switching regulator section of the power supply. We usually replace the entire power supply board. if no replacement board is available then we repair the board as our last stance. If cost of repair exceeds a new one, we dump the monitor and buy a new one instead.

My Hanns.g monitor 1080P HDM1 has a power problem, when it's turned on either by the power switch or when it's activated by the keyboard, it flashes on & off several times & then goes off, playing...

nfleurat, If nothing wrong with the "on"/"off" switch, then must be the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply" circuit card inside of unit. Look for a possible "thermally intermittant solder connection" and then resolder it. Also, inspect unit for possible "swollen" electrolytic filter capacitors on power supply board. Read more of my responses to other owners in my FIXYA profiles for more options you can use to solve your LCD display problem. 12fixlouie aka louie12fix Good luck on the repair.

Philips 107 E5 Monitor; display compressed into lower half

This is partial frame collapse and can be caused by a power supply issue supply the frame driver or the frame driver circuit has a problem with an IC or driver transistor. It should be relatively cheap to repair at a computer or TV shop but you may want to consider buying a cheap replacement monitor from eBay etc as the repair may cost you more than the replacement given everyone seems to be dumping CRT based monitors in favour of newer LCDs etc.

Compaq monitor speaker

If everything worked before you moved it, I would try checking the simple things 1st.
Make sure that the plug from the speakers is plugged into the correct hole in the back of your computer. Usually, the color of the plug for the speakers and the jack are GREEN.
If the power isn't coming on the speakers, then I would make sure that you have the correct power plug (If the speaker type that you have, has a removable power supply).

What you can to to test out the speakers, is plug the speakers into an IPOD or a MP3 player and test it out.
This will at least eliminate the possiblity that the speakers/wires/power supply are bad.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Acer al1714

The problem may not be the monitor. Acer AL1714 is known for its weak power supply unit. Unplug power supply from monitor. If the green light on monitor comes on but goes out quickly, the power supply is the culprit!

New power supply problem

try to run it with out the memory and see if you have the right kind, put one stick in and try that, if still does not work, then you must have a short on the motherboard. I would replace that. most of the time the power box goes out it shorts the motherboard out too. if a green light is on, the power box is good and the motherboard is out. Farren
