Adjusting chain tension

There are a number of different types of adjusters, front manual adjusters, side manual adjusters and tooless adjusters, the two latter systems require you to slacken the bar nut/nuts and with a flat blade screw driver turn the screw clockwise to increase chain tention, the chain should touch the bar rails all around the bar with no sagging on the under side of the bar, with a gloved hand you should be able to pull the chain around easily to make sure its not too tight, with the tooless adjuster slacken off the bar nut/nuts and turn the thumb wheel down to increase the tention.

Replace chain onchainsaw

As you do not say what model this is we will talk about generic replacment, start by making sure the chain brake ( if fitted ) is off, do this by pulling the hand guard fully back to the top handle, next remome the nut/nuts holding the side cover on, wind the chain adjuster screw fully back and remove the side cover, loop the chain over the nose of the bar and take away, loop the new chain over the sprocket and lay around the guide bar, making sure it is in the bar groove, the sharp edge of the cutters on the top of the bar should face away from the saw ( as you look at the saw the chain turns clockwise ) if the bar adjuster pawl is in the crankcase make sure it sits through the hole in the guide bar, if the adjuster pawl is in the side cover make sure this enters into the hole in the guide bar as you re fit the side cover, re fit the side cover nut/nuts finger tight, turn the adjuster so as the chain touchea all the way around the guide bar, with a gloved hand pull the chain around the bar, now re tention the chain if required, now lift the nose of the guide bar and fully tighten the nut/nuts, run the saw, there will be an initial stretch, so re tention as required, do not over tention the chain, it should pull around the bar by hand readily but touch the bar rails, not sag on the bottom of the bar.

I have a Poulan ES 350 and need to know how to put chain back on and tighten.

Start by removing the cover securing nut, remove the side cover, wind the chain adjuster screw at the front of the saw anti clockwise, until the old chain becomes lose, pull the guide bar out and off the adjuster pawl, should now be able to remove the old chain, loop the new chain over the sprocket, and into the guide bar rails, make sure the cutting edge of the chain on the top of the bar is facing away from the saw ( the chain rotates clockwise as you look at it )make sure the bar is still located on the adjuster pawl, re fit the side cover, re fit the securing nut finger tight, now turn the adjuster screw with a flat blade screw driver, until the chain sits snugley in the bar rails, there should be no sagging on the bottom of the bar, now lift the tip of the bar and fully tighten the securing nut, run the saw for a couple of minutes, now re check the tention. The correct tention is so you can lift clear two of the drive teeth out from the top of the bar.

How do I change chain on a 14" mc culloch saw

As you do not say what model we are talking about, i will go through the standard procedure.
If it has a chain brake make sure this is de activated by pulling the hand guard fully back to the top handle, remove the nut/nuts from the side cover, remove the cover, pull the bar away from the adjuster pawl, this will slacken the chain enough to loop the chain from the bar and off the sprocket, screw the chain adjuster fully back ( this may be in the crankcase or in the side cover ), with the guide bar now fully back loop the new chain over the sprocket, and lay it into the bar rails, with the cutters sharp edge facing away from the saw on the top of the bar ( the chain rotates clockwise as you are looking at it ) replace the side cover, if the adjuster pawl is in the cover make sure the pawl aligns with the hole in the guide bar, refit the bar nut/nuts finger tight, adjust the chain so as it touches all the way around the guide bar, with a gloved hand pull the chain around the bar to make sure it is fully into the sprocket, re tention the chain if required, hold the nose of the bar up and fully tighten the bar nut/nuts.
Once the saw has run for 10 minutes there will be an initial stretch, so you will need to re tention it.
Hope this helps.

The blade on my McCulloch Electramac EM250-14 came off. How do I put it back on? Dan Enright

I am not familier with this machine, hoever the principle is the same for most machines, start by removeing the bar nut/nuts, remove the side cover, wind the chain adjuster screw fully back it may be in the saw or in the side cover, push the guide bar fully back, now loop the chain over the sprocket and lay it into the top of the guide bar, and around the tip, the cutting edge of the chain in the top of the guide bar should be facing away from the saw ( the chain rotates clockwise as you look at it ) replace the side cover, make sure the adjuster pawl is in the hole in the guide bar, assemble the nut/nuts finger tight, now adjust the bar so as the chain is touching all the way around the guide bar, with a gloved hand pull the chain around the bar manually to make sure it is properly on the sprocket, re tention the chain if required, lift the tip of the bar and fully tighten the bar nut/nuts, the chain should not sag on the bottom of the guide bar.

Turn the vacuum over so the bottom is up.. Remove scews from plate surrounding the brush area..
Pop of the cover plate..
Lift out the side of the brush that the belt connects to..
Put new belt on..
Put the brush back in place.. It might be a bit tough because the new belt will have a bit of tention..
Put plate cover back on and screws..
