Question about Zebra LP 2844 Thermal Printer

1 Answer

LP2843 printer This printer, LP2843 and LP2844 seems to have alot of problems with the top not being sensed as being closed and not picking up that it is closed. If you press on the top, then you get a green light and the printer works. I do not see a switch for the lid. Is there a door/lid switch or is this sensed by a sensor? What can be the problem? Thanks

When I try to print, I get the error: Top Cover Open: The printer cannot print because the top cover is open. How do I fix this?

Hi cduckyquack ,

  • All you need to do is close the printer cover if it's open , once it's closed you should be able to print correctly without any warning messages.
  • If the cover is closed and still you are getting the same message , then it might be a problem with the censor switch which indicates to the printer whether or not the cover is open, so if the switch / sense has gone faulty then you need to repair it.
  • Sometimes just because of dust the printer does not sense the cover being closed and it results in the error message that you have described.
  • Hope this helps ...) your feedback would be appreciated.

Are you sure that the page size is wrong, or are you just guessing because of the way that the label is printing? I would uninstall the driver - delete the printer from printers and faxes and remove the driver from Server Properties (in the file drop down in Printers and Faxes). Go to and get the latest driver - you have to have the UPS version of the driver in order to support pass-through printing. Go into your UPS Ship Asst application and make sure that the generic thermal is not checked.

We are in need of thermal printers and Zebra LP

The LP2844 can only print on Direct Thermal labels.

DT labels have the ink within the label and the labels react to heat. If these labels are to be exposed to direct sunlight they will eventually turn black.

If you scrape the label with fingernail you can usually see the black ink on label

The physical size of the labels is this max width 1 inch (MInimum) to 4 inches (Max). Maximum length of label depends on the amount of memory in printer but maximum size for standard LP2844 is 11 inches. With full memory can be 22 inches long.

The labels must be on a 1 inch core.

These printer can handle all label types.

1: die cut Labels - Use gap sensing.*
2: Labels with Black mark on back - Use Black mark*
3: Continuous roll - select continuous *

* Select in printer driver media setting

Use the latest ZDesigner Driver V1.5.10
Download from Zebra Website.

Printer Preferences - Advanced Setup - Media Type.

Zebra lp2844 printing incorrectly with paypal multi order

Same here... Can't be the printer - has to be something with either the paypal software or the driver since my 'SAMPLE' prints solid as well. Did you ever find a solution?

I need the driver for Zebra LP 2844 for MAC OS X.

OS X 10.5.2 and above have built-in ZPL and EPL drivers. Plug the printer in to USB, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax, click + , and choose the Zebra driver. For the LP2844 you choose the EPL2 driver.

Zebra LP 2844 printer will not print anything but the test page

possibly not a real LP2844 but an LP2543, a printer mass produced for and used by UPS. refurbishers change the label and sell as LP2844 because they are almost identical.
if it has an AC-AC adapter, it is an LP2543. LP2844 uses a AC-DC adapter, and all LP2844's have USB ports.

Zebra LP2844 Thermal Printer won't print from a browser

I posted this problem last week and since that time discovered the problem (at least for me). I had to replace the HD and failed to update a current version of Java. Without Java in place I could call for it to print but the print job would disappear into thin air. After installing a current version of Java the machine began printing again and has worked perfectly.

Flashing red light

Hi Quadralady,
I found these possibilities listed in the manual:

1. Perform media length sensing.
2. Possible problem with label stock. Use only approved
labels and tags.
3. Possible label jam.
4. Insufficient memory for label size. Check the printer
memory configuration.
5. Possible software problem. Refer to the programming
