SOURCE: sandisk cruzer 8 gb usb detection problem
Hi,
If the device doesn't show up in disk management it is most likely damaged. If you have already gotten that far on your own you have eliminated most of the user servicable options for repair.
You can try sending it for data recovery if you require the files on it.
If you're in North America, try Armor-IT Data Recovery, they're listed in the FixYa service database. If you're in another region, just let me know which one and I'll provide another recommendation.

SOURCE: stopped working COMPLETELY!!!!
I wanted to pull up a document from my SanDisk 2 GB Micro Cruzer and the drive would not read (light flashed, went out, on every computer I tried it) . I took the flash drive to our tech person and she couldn't get anything to happen either. For a month I was simply resigned to the fact that I'd lost three years of documents for my job (teaching). The solution: I took the casing off, and plugged the bare usb/circuit board into the port, it worked long enough to pull all those documents off. Just to see if that fixed the flash drive, I put it back together, and tried it again-no go. Moral of my story: back up your work, and don't place so much trust a $19.99 drive for single copies of important documents.
