Try a new needle--one for the fabric being sewed
try a different bobbin --make sure it's turned the right direction
make sure the top thread has not come off the thread take up lever
could also be a timing problem

Hi Debbie. Thanks. So it turns out it was very poor thread. Too thin for the fabric. Simple, embarasing really. We did even go so far as to look at the timing but it was alright. Just needed new thread. Thanks for your help.

SOURCE: not sewing - jamming

Could it be that the feed dogs are down? I also have the 15358 and when I opened the bobbin area to clean it, I had this problem. Apparently, when you open the clips around the outside of the casing, it pushes the lever that adjusts the feed dogs to the right (lowering them). I didn't even realize it at first. Check your manual for adjusting this lever to raise the feed dogs. That might solve your problem.

Try a different bobbin. Look for one that is a little narrower. I had the same problem and changing to a narrower bobbin fixed it.

SOURCE: When I try to sew my machine jams a little every

Hello,

Although you already re-theaded and cleaned your machine, re-check this:

- Un-thread your machine and remove your bobbin. Clean any loose thread or lint out of your bobbin case. Re-thread your machine, reinsert and rethread your bobbin.

If that doesn't work, try this:

- Change your bobbin. There could be a nick along the edge of your bobbin spool that’s catching your thread as you sew.

- Raise your feed dogs if your machine has this feature.

Note:
when you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.

Hope this helps.

And second problem is It keeps jamming when sewing little And thread keeps cutting too out of needle Sew empty stitching

If thread is breaking at the needle, change the needle. It could be damaged and snagging the thread. However, if there is a burr in the needle plate, that could be catching and breaking the thread. Try different thread. Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading. Verify the thread path is correct and that each thread is seated completely in the tension disk. The tension may be too tight.

My Janome 1600 keeps breaking threads

Is the tension too tight? Are the tension discs clean? Remove bobbin case, clean it and re-thread as this may be jammed.

How do I keep my sewing machines top thread from hanging up on something under the plate?

Hello
The description seems to indicate that the top thread has no to very little tension. Try rethreading the upper thread and make double sure that it is engaged in the tension assembly AND goes through the take up lever (that is the little 'thingy' that goes up and down really fast as your are stitching).
Generally loops on the underside are caused by loose thread on the top.
Happy stitching

Have you tried re-threading it? Remember to keep the presser foot up as you thread so that the tension discs are open. Re-thread the upper thread because it can often cause bobbin jams.
Perhaps your tension discs are blocked, try running a thicker thread through by hand to clean them.
Check there are no broken threads in the bobbin raceway.
Sometimes the wrong size needle upsets the tension.

Jams up when attempting to sew, making loud noise. Thread mass under fabric when able to cut loose from machine.

Thread jams underneath usually are caused by top thread tension issues. Things to check:
top tension discs are clean and no thread traces caught in there, tension is set to medium number usually 4 or 5 and that the top thread is running freely from the thread spool, correctly thread through the tension discs, and down to the needle. Lower the pressure foot and pull the thread from just above the needle; it should feel firm resistance if under tension correctly.

As you've had a good jam up, good idea to now remove the bobbin, needle plate and bobbin holder (refer to your manual if you have never done this before) and clean out the hook area well, look for any fine thread remants and brush out any lint etc. Oil the rotary hook area as per your manual. Now reassemble, and rethread everything again checking that the bobbin thread is clicked into the tension spring and that the top thread is through the tension discs correctly.

Also, pop in a new needle, flat shank to the back, then try again.

Good luck with your machine.

My machine will not stitch....have tried every combination and it keeps dropping stitches

Start with brand new needles. Make sure you use sharp needles for woven and ball point for knits.
Remove all threads from machine. Open all covers,, including top cover (under thread tension). Remove all lint. Oil moving parts. Replace covers.
Thread your machine from right to left. In other words, start with the lower looper, upper looper, right needle, then left needle. That should solve your problem. Thread must be threaded in specific order and through every loop in order to work. One miss threaded loop will cause the machine not to sew properly.

My new ruffling foot keeps jamming my machine

Take the foot off and check for a small burr in the area that pushes the material through. If there is a burr, it will get caught, especially on lace. The burr can be removed with a very fine abrasive stone or the emery srea from a match pack.

Model 8280. The thread on the bottom keeps bunching up. It is a horrible mass of thread. Then, it stops moving. Can you help me?

I had the same problem and I tried everything including removing the bobin case, cleaning out lint, changing the needle, adjusting the tension but it did not work. Then I finally tried reloading the bobin thread, making sure to load the bobin according the manual directions....and the problem was solved...no more tangles... just a nice even stitch...yeah!
