Well, this may make you think twice:
I bought a presario from circuit city last year, and I paid $200 to downgrade to XP. Everything was fine until it crashed last week. IT went completely bizzerk. HP won't provide support, cause I changed it. Circuit City is out of business, not much help there.
Basically, I am completely #$%%@@.
I am now paying to get Vista put back in. :-(

7E is a memory issue or general driver fault. It's windows way of saying "i dunno it just died". If you have Dell diagnostics, run a full system check, to ensure the hardware is ok. If you get no errors, then you have a driver fault in windows. This is From Microsoft:
If the following conditions are true, the issue might be a hardware incompatibility with Windows XP because all the installed drivers are Windows XP drivers:
Basically, the 7E error is a defective driver. You will likely have to get your computer recovered by a professional shop, or if you have nothing important on it, attempt to reformat and reinstall. It is unfair that Windows has borked your computer and they wont fix it. I hope I was able to at least point you in the right direction.

Testimonial: "Fred knew exactly what the Windows stop codes meant and what steps to take to diagnose the problem. "
Sounds like you need to take it in for repairs, clean outs and/or replacements.
This product is known for it's heating issue and power consumption. Maybe the fan is starting to wear out and it's affecting the rest of the system. I would suggest checking the warranty on the system, if it is no longer valid, then I would look for a local tech in the newspaper.

At this point, your operating system has crashed. Sadly, the recovery will not work at this stage. Your next option is to get all your information transferred to another computer and then install the operating system of your choice. You can contact us 24/7 at 800-595-3564 if you need further assistance.
