SOURCE: lincoln ranger 250 voltage problem

Hi,
Check the current control resistor with an ohm meter. The center terminal should have a smooth rise or fall of resistance when measured to one end or the other of the resistor. If the resistor and the wiring to it are OK, check the shunt in the output it'll be by the "electrode" terminal. If both are OK you probably have a bad control board.

Carl

SOURCE: I have a Lincoln 140 mig welder. It welds and cuts

Usually this is caused by a bad liner in the mig gun hose, or worn out guide rolls in the drive unit, or if this is not the case the speed of the wire might be set to high as this would force the wire into the weld causing the motor to heat up from resistance and shut it down on safty. Hope This Helps Don

SOURCE: my welder no longer produces high quality welds

You could have a poor ground clamp connection. Check that. also increasing the gas flow will cause turbulence at the weld, this can have a negative effect on weld quality.
Check your connections, check your liner, actually, replace it if you haven't recently.

Lincoln electric ac/dc arc welder will not arc

Check the dial indicator. Sometimes if someone changes the amps while welding, there will be a break in the coil. It will work at a different setting as long as you are away from the break.

Welding fine , then machine quit welding, would still rev up, but barely arch!

I had the same problem except it was with a miller welder. it was a bad ground connection on the ground cable. if you have an ohm meter. turn off your machine, but do not unplug it. check for resistance from chassis ground on machine to input ground if your input on the machine is good you may have a bad cable, input connection or the ground clamp may not be making a good connection to the cable. good luck!

My welder has auxilary power, but will not weld

Blow air through cabinet to clean out the dust- low pressure. Check for continuity across the reactor. if you connect one test lead to the terminal "R4", should be a tape label on the connection. The other connection is "S1", you should see less than 10,000 ohms.

Check the weld polarity switch to make sure it is not damaged. If you have AC welding but no DC- check L1 the choke in series with the + connection on the bridge rectifiers.

Also check cable A4 that connects between the bridge rectifiers and the current selector switch. Make sureit is intact, and clean terminations.

Ranger welder does not generate enough dc current to weld with and only enough current to turn a ac drill very slowly. checked wires seem to be ok.

clean the brush rings with a very fine emery cloth is still then there is a controller board issue at that point it will have to go to a service center do to there are no supplier's for them other that Lincoln go to their sit HERE and find a service center in your area these boards range from $250.00 to $600.00 there is 4 of them in the machine they will have to remove the top and swap the boards till they find the right one have the same welder i have been through this with Lincoln already hope this helps

No or little ac output

By ac you mean receptacles, not ac welding?
If so what about welding output on AC (DC)?

If welding is OK then you may have breaker or fuse problem.
If welding output is also low or no output your problem is the generator.
You should check your gen rpm to be normal. If so you may have field problem: rectifier, AVR etc.
If you can measure the field DC voltage at rated rpm, if it is missing (very low) try to find any circuit broken.
If you do not succeed answer this instruction in order to give you more.
