I have a Samsung Sync Master 731BF and when I switch it on, the power light stays on but the image is black and wont show any picture whatsoever.

Hook a spare monitor to the computer to rule out the Video Graphics Card in the computer, if okay! It is the Samsung, "power supply issues" bad capacitors, sometimes show a bulge at top. But to be on the safe side replace the video cord from the computer to the monitor if possible.

Tmy monitor shows the images only for 20 seconds, then it turns black.

Hi hope your monitor issue has resolved. I would suspect the problem is a hardware issue then a software setting. Since the monitor is over three and half years old, if your monitor is a LCD with CCFL back light and had been used almost every day, there may be 3 possible hardware issues. First is the internal power supply, that can go wrong due to heating problem within the monitor, this problem usually cause the monitor to display poor quality picture and may show interference lines on screen prior failure. Secondly, it may be the inverter that drives the back light, which may fail due to the safety circuit kicks in, because it involves with high voltages. Thirdly it may be the backlight itself, which is like most compact CCFL energy saving lamps that flickers or turn itself off when it reaches the end of its service life. This problem usually caused the monitor to show redness or yellowness images prior failure.

All of these can be resolved by qualified electronic repairers, all the best.

My monitor turns on but it just goes out the power button it still active green like it is reading my conputer.but when it comes on and goes out its just black.nothing...

b24teddy, This seems to be a power supply problem. Some can be repaired (DIY) for $20 or less. $35 to $70 if contracting out the work. More if replacement circuit board is needed. From your problem description I get the feeling that your monitor "works" and will display an image or data on the screen. Your description of your monitor symptom is what is known as "black" screen or "black&blank" screen. If you know the pc has finished booting and is displaying the WIN-desktop, point a bright flashlight 1 inch from the black lcd panel and tell me if you see a faint image of your desktop. If nothing is seen=full shutdown of SMPS power supply. If icons are seen=partial shutdown only! If you read some of my older responses to owners of black screen lcd's in my FIXYA profile (pages 10 up) you will understand the problem and how some owners who are handy with a soldering pencil (iron) restore their units back to life. Yes, your's has a good chance of being fixed. Just spend an hour reading in my fixya file and then decide what you will do.

No picture, monitor won't show anything black screen. Monitor was working fine put it on another computer and it won't show images. Could it be part of the power saving system? Is there a reset button?

Does the monitor show absolutely nothing, not even when first turned on? In that case maybe the cable could be defective or connected improperly, or the new computer might not be compatible (or set to output to, say, digital port, while you've got a SVGA monitor). In that case you'll need to connect a working monitor for the time required to reconfigure the computer.

If the image does appears at boot, or resetting the computer, and then disappears, it could be that the new computer is set to a resolution which is too high for the monitor, which goes in protection mode and effectively turns off. Again you'll have to gain access to the computer (maybe booting in Safe Mode) and lower its video resolution to something the monitor can handle.

Hope this helps, have a nice day

Power supply on 17" acer monitor

franh, Typical of a lcd/fpd monitor! There is nothing you or hundreds of others can do to repair it all by yourself. I have repaired 3 monitors and helped tutor 2 others on fixya with their monitors. All had same exact symptom as your monitor. I need you to do a simple test for me. With failed Acer monitor near to your Fully Booted PC with a known good desktop being displayed on back-up monitor, quickly swap out the monitor cables from the back of the PC. Keep touching the CTRL key on you keyboarb every 30-50 seconds to keep the PC from sending out sleep mode command to monitor while doing the reconnect of acer to your PC monitor output port. Make sure the Acer also is connected to a live wall outlet/power strip. Turn on the Acer and note what happens. If screen shows a sharp clear image for a second, then goes black, do the following. Get a bright flashlight and shine it on the screen from a distance of 1 or 2 inches and tell me if you can see the desktop display. get back to me with your observations. Gateway FPD1530 loses image shortly after powering up.

try booting into safe mode. press F8 while the computer is booting. see if everything stays normal. It should tell you that it booted into safe mode. Once there, change the resolution or the frequency of the display(also known as the refresh rate) by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties. Once there, click the tab all the way to the right, it should give you color quality options and resolution options. At the bottom, there should be an advanced tab. Depending on our video card this menu can be different from others. Look in that new window for and option to change the refresh rate or the frequency. The value will be in xxx hertz. try setting it to 60 hertz.

HI. I had the same problem with mine. It would flash the screen on for a split second and then turn black, the whole time the power light remained green. Upon opening up the case, I pulled the combo power supply board/inverter board out for inspection. I noticed one of the capacitors had a bulge on top indicating it was bad. It was the the 680uf 25v capacitor. I desoldered it, and soldered in the new one. After hooking everything back up, bingo!! Monitor now works perfectly. I couldn't find an exact match to the capacitance locally, but I had a 1000uf 35v cap in my utility box. It worked fine as a replacement. You can usually go within 30 percent of tolerance and be alright. Just don't go under on capacitance or voltage. I hope this helps.

Screen goes blank

Screen going black would indicate a data flow problem- but then you would see a warning saying words to this affect or a back light/inverter problem. If by looking slightly sideways at the sreen you can see 'shadow images'[try a moving image to be syre] then you have a backlight /inverter problem If you see nothing at all ckecj the data cable pins- one or more may be bent
