Question about Jandy LAARS VALVE, PRESSURE RELIEF 75PSI 3/4" NPT

1 Answer

My controller says it is in spa mode - trying to heat only spa- but water is spilling into pool. I have 2 jandy valves, only 1 moves when I change from spa/pool mode. Any suggestions?

The valve actuator on the suction side is either bad or the toggle switch on the back is in the wrong position. There are 3 positions for the switch on/off/on. It should be in either be all the way up or all the way down. In spa mode move the toggle switch. If it still doesn't move then you have a bad actuator. If it moves someone has moved the switch.

Pull the cover off the control panel. You will probably find a button which would be accessible from outside the panel with a paper clip or pencil but is unlabeled. On the board itself by the button, in small letters it should say "reset". Push the button and see what happens.

SOURCE: Jandy aqualink rs4: pool has been winterized with

the only thing you can do since the jandy does not have a "winter" mode is switch the valves off. Once you have the valves in spa mode, there should be a toggle switch on the valve actuators. You can set the switches to the middle position and that will lock them in that position. You will probably have to re-winterize the pool lines.

If you remove the handel and open thr top of the actuator you will see a set nut on the center of the shaft that you use to set where the valve stops. If this is tight then you may have a bad micro switch in the unit and you should replace the actuator. Good luck.

If the unit is lighting then shutting off then repeating it isn't rectifying, means not sensing the flame. May have a bad flame sensor or ignition control. I'm guessing your AGS is indicated on the GUI also.

Which positins do my actuaters need to be for heating pool

The valve actuator switches are set, to match proper flow of water thru the proper designated systems plumbing, per the selected system the automation system controls.
I am making a presumption that you have pool/spa combo, and you have an automated controlling system? With that system... Are automated valves controlled by valve actuators.
Your question was not specific enough, therefore I have to guess as to what you are asking.
When you choose 'Pool' ON - and Heat on, if there is a demand for additional heat, the heater will come on. If it was on SPA mode when you chose the above, the valves will automatically start turning, so that water will be sucked from the pool and then returned to the pool. SPA will sit stagnant during this time.
Now here is where I am guessing...
If the water is sucking from spa but returning to pool, the system is 1/2 correct (valves are 1/2 correct) and you need to manually have the 'Suction Side' valve turn 180 degrees. The automation will not be affected... To do this, locate the Manual 3 position switch on the valve actuator. Then flip it to exactly opposite position. The switch is labeled 1, Off, and 2.
Hopefully it was not in off position... Not a problem, just a little more explanation required to set it correctly. So if it was 2, flip to 1, and vice versa. IF it was on Off then the valve was not moving when automation gave command to begin Pool usage and Heat ON. Flip the switch until you get the flow of water Sucking from pool.
Note*** The valve handle has a 'Flag' opposite the handle as part of the handle, it's semi triangular , and when that flag is over the pipe, that pipes PORT is Closed! So if you know what the two pipes going into your three way valve, then into the pump are because they are labeled, then it is easier... Flip the switch until the flag part of the handle is over the pipe marked Spa.
The same explanation goes for the return side valve, if water is returning to the spa, and automation is set for 'Pool' operation, you will know this either because spa is spilling over into pool, or the flag portion of the valve is over the pipe marked Pool. That flag portion needs to be over the pipe for Spa Return.
Notice the little switch on the right side of pic attached... Near the word Torque. And the triangular part of the handle as well.
Good luck.5_4_2015_3_32_47_am.jpg

I have a Jandy Aqualink pool system. When I turn on the spa and heater, the spa drains..I've never had this happen but don't use the spa much. What should I check?

His is not typically a control panel issue but more likely a valve issue.

Your valves are set as follows wih a few minor variations.....
Pool mode- sucks from pool skimmer and or pool vac line and returns water to both the pool and spa.
Spa mode - self contains the spa , meaning water is sucked from the spa and returned only to the spa.
If your spa is draining then most likely one of your electronic valves is failing...most likely it's the return valve so what is happening is the water is sucked from the spa and returned to the pool instead of self containing the spa.
Easy check is to be next to the equip when spa mode is selected and two valves should move and align properly, the return side valve is most likely not moving or it is not moving into the correct position.
The fix is either adjusting the valve acuator or buying a new valve acuator.
Another thing to check is on the main panel circuit board to ensure the return and auction 3 pin plug ins are still connected.

What is the right switch posicion for the jandy valve to be when you have a spa and pool together

If you know what pipe is the suction or return for the spa than have a look at the handle of the valve. You will see that on the "fat"end of the valve it says the words OFF use the toggle swift to move the handle to have OFF face the spa suction and retun pipe. Make sure that the aqualink is in pool mode before doing this. Now when you hit spa mode, the valves should turn and allow flow to and from the spa

Spa won't heat unless in spa mode, and if it is in

On the automated valves there are tiny switches on one end or under the valve actuator. When you switch to the spa mode the suction valve should should move to fully block pool drains. The return valve should fully block the pipes to the pool returns and spa fountain. If one or both of these valves is not fully blocking the pipes to the pool then the tiny switch on that valve is in the wrong position or an operator is defective. The middle position of either of these switches turns the operator completely off so it cannot move. That is the position to avoid unless you want to operate it manually. One of the other switch positions caused the valve to move in one direction and the other switch positions causes the valve to move in the other direction. If you set the switches so when in the spa mode water is circulating only in the spa then you have the valves in the right position. Next, place the system into the pool mode. Both valves should move to the other position. If not then the valve operator that doesn't move has a problem. It could be the operator, the wiring, the control panel or a stuck valve in that order. All of this sounds complicated but once you know how the operators should act when you flip those tiny switches and how the valves should act when in the spa and the pool mode then getting the switches set right is simple. I hope this helps.
