Sounds like a Electrolytic capacitor has failed. Search backwards from the speaker connections inside the unit to the main PC board. Replace the first ones that you come accross that are linked with the speakers.

It is not so easy to probe into to find a protection fault condition. The fault can be your output drivers- the MOSFETS/IC's fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise like a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation. In this case I think that some capacitors are faulty as when the set is put on it charges on to make the amplifier work. Possible fault in the protect circuit or preamp.
You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board, maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias , maybe a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

I have an Onkyo TS-DS939 receiver which worked for quit a while and then would not put out any sound when turned on. I would switch from TV to radio sources and after maybe 20 minutes it would start to...

Since the unit eventually works as expected, I would first look for poor solder connections inside the unit. It is quite possible that hte prolonged storage has damaged a few connections. If you can solder, try looking at the solder connections and resolder any that appear grainy or have rings. Update this if that does not resolve the problem and we'll look further.

Thanks,
Dan

Lg chocolate 800 cell phone, I can turn it on but a few minutes later, the phone turns off by itself. Is it the battery or does it need reprogramming

The fault should be from the battery.

The few minutes when it turns on, does the phone work perfectly? If it works perfectly, then the fault is truly from the battery. But if it hangs or does not work properly, then maybe it needs reprogramming.

My advice is that, if you know a friend that uses the same phone with yours, borrow the battery and test it with your phone, as this would convince you if the fault is from the battery or not.

Best wishes.
