Can you use black only in hp officejet 6700 rather than all the cartridges

Hello, Lisa -

You can choose to print in black only. However, the black print will use not only the ink from the black ink cartridge but it will also draw from the 3 other color ink cartridges.

Bottom line: You will need sufficient ink in all ink cartridges even to print in black only.

Please read your HP 6700 user's manual, starting on page 74 of the manual.

In case you do not have the user's manual for your printer, this is the link so you can download and save the PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader software, free) version of the manual:

Best wishes.

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.

Can it (HP deskjet F380 all in one) still print with only color cartridge or only black cartridge ? Or Should two cartridges remain together to print even one is empty ? Thanks

the answer to your question is yes,it can still print with only one cartridge installed.
If you do not have a replacement cartridge, and the quality of your printouts is not a concern, you can still print in ink-backup mode. Consider the following guidelines before printing in ink-backup mode:

  • If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.
  • If you remove the black or photo cartridge, the product will print more slowly and the colors in the printouts will vary.
press OK button to clear the error message like cartridge missing after removing one cartridge.

Is there any way to get my printer to print only black copies without having to buy the new color print cartridge

Go to the printer settings - Preferences- color tab - and select Grayscale in the color selection.

Once this is done, try print a color text and see if it comes in a gray scale. This will work.

To give you a tip on this.... understand that this printer has a black ink cartridge and a tri-color cartridge. When we select grayscale, only black cartridge would be used.

Good Luck.

Compatibles wont work

Try this:

The HP all-in-one product will print black copies using both the color and black cartridges to create composite black in Normal and Best modes. This is necessary to create the correct grayscale shades.
  1. The color cartridge may be out of one color of ink. Perform the steps in the 'Colors are not correct' section above to verify that the ink cartridges are not low on ink.
  2. Verify that the correct paper type is selected in the Paper Type setting.
  3. Some photo paper has different chemical characteristics than Hewlett-Packard paper. The HP all-in-one is designed for use with HP Premium and Premium Plus Photo Paper. The photo paper, paper-type setting should be used with HP Photo Paper. For other paper brands, it may be necessary to use the plain paper or premium Inkjet paper, paper-type settings.
OR: The ink cartage you have may be defective if is a refilled or recharged cartage.

How can I print Black only?

Hi

HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps

Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.

Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.

Thanks

Won't print

Try the following steps:

Check for and remove any grayscale settings. Use the following steps to check this setting.
  1. In the program, click File and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Select the correct product and then click Properties . The Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Color tab.
  4. Check the Print in Grayscale setting. If necessary, unselect the setting.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
If this doesnot work:

    1. Open the Printer Toolbox .
    2. Open HP Solution Center .
    3. Click Settings .
    4. Click Print Settings .
    5. Click Printer Toolbox .
Now Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab. This will tell u that the cartridge might be running out of ink even if the graphic shows that there is ink remaining in the cartridge.Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.
  • If this doesnot work:
  • If the Print in grayscale option is not the problem and the print cartridges are not low on ink, print and evaluate a self-test page to determine if the cartridges or printer is causing the problem.
    1. Load the input tray with unused plain white paper.
    2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy Color button.
    3. Release both buttons. The self-test page prints.
This will definitely work for u.
    Thank u.

Documents print part way then stop

I've had similar problems in the past with my 1100dtn printer...there are several possible causes...it may simply be refusing to continue printing because the blue cartridge is completely out of ink...in spite of the black only setting.

Also, it could be some kind of software conflict, virus program, or spyware overload occuring in your PC...especially if the document you're trying to print is a large file, picture, or contains a lot of graphics. Try a test print from windows with other programs shut down.

Try completely removing the HP printer management software and then reinstall the latest version for your operating system from HP's web site.

A firmware upgrade may help. Firmware files and instructions are available on the HP web site. Mine printer has been running bug-free for about 18 months now...since I did a firmware upgrade. Firmware updates are complex...hopefully you'll find a simpler solution....but it may be needed, especially if your printer is more than a couple of years old.
