Press 'F 8' repeatedly as PC starts to get to your boot menu. If I will no longer be associated with Fixya.com as their policies have changed and what was once a good side-job is now an unpaid service. Yet the customers still pay dearly for answers! You may contact me through my website, David Home Computer Repair, if you would need professional, inexpensive tech support.it does not appear still, you may have to go into BIOS settings (F 2) and enable the settings.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Can you select "safe mode" from the boot menu? As much as I hate to recommend it, I think you should wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows (I hope you backed up everything of value on your computer). If you can't successfully reinstall the operating system, then I'd say, in all likelihood, you have a defective hard drive which would need to be replaced.

SOURCE: I am unable to do

Hi,
You can't select repair from advanced boot menu without CD. If you purchase your laptop with pre-loaded (ORIGINAL) operating system you can restore by pressing F11 while restaring. It'll restore your system as same as you by from showroom. If it is a pirated software you need to insert bootable CD of Windows 7 or whatever you need & restart your system. Press F10 or change first boot device in BIOS mode. Select DVD drive. It'll continue installation...

thanks & regards

How to factory restore a dell vostro 1520 laptop

To perform the Dell PC Restore this really depends on what Operating System the Dell shipped with. Please note this type of restore will remove everything that has been added (files, programs etc) since receiving the system from Dell.

This link will display instructions for both XP and Vista:http://support.dell.com/support/topics/g...

As per the link, if the system shipped with XP you will just need to press Ctrl and F11 at the Dell screen when the computer first turns on.

If the system shipped with Windows Vista:

"Restart the computer. To do this, click Start, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart.

As the computer restarts, press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
Note: You must press F8 before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press F8 after the Windows logo appears, the Advanced Boot Options menu does not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.

Press the (Down Arrow) to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press Enter.

Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.

Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.

Click Dell Factory Image Restore.

In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.

Click to select the check box for Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition.

Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.

When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer."

I hope this helps.

7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.

8 Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.

9 Click Next.
The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.

10 When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.
The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.
If you have tried this and you still can get your system to restore, your may restore partition may be corrupt, you may also have a virus that is preventing you access to the restore files. Run an AV agent and retry your retore. If you still have the system disc that came with your notebook, you should be able to use them to restore the unit back to factory setting.
