Question about Whirlpool LTE5243D Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

Problem spinning For the washer to spin, it requires me to manually lift up the lid each time and close it again, otherwise it will just hum. I called a repair service and they said it may be the lid switch or coupling and they are charging $130. Is this reasonable or can I buy the part and do it myself? Thanks in advance. -A-

My washer will not spin.

It depends on the cycle. It may not spin if the lid/door is not closed. Some machines doesn't spin immediately on some cycles. Be sure the lid/door is closed correctly.

If you hear a noise or hum, it may be a mechanical problem and may require service.

Kenmore washer mdl#110.23832100 spin cycle motor

Hello, looks like your lid switch is on it's way out, replace will find it normally about half way down under the lid. If not there you will find it in the control panel on the right side next to the water level control. The reason it works some times and not others is because some times it fails to push the lid switch down far enough to engage. the lid switch is a safety divice inteneded to stop you opening the lid while in a high speed spin. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. Mike

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

Washer spins after lifting lid several times

I would bet you have a lid switch starting to go bad. This is a common symptom. This is an inexpensive and simple repair job if you wish to pursue this on your own. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a distinctive "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated when the lid closes. If you hear no sound, you need to check the following:

Some washers have the lid switch under the right-hand side of the wash tub opening and is activated through a small slot on the wash tub casing rim by a small plastic piece on the lid called a lid strike. If this is the type you have, make sure the lid strike is still intact or the switch will not activate. Check the two mounting screws next to the slot and make sure they are present and tight. These are the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place. If they come loose it can prevent the switch from activating.

Newer models have the lid switch mounted under the washer casing in the left-hand rear adjacent to the left washer lid hinge. The switch is activated by a rod on the lid hinge. Sometimes a simple adjustment of this rod can correct contact problems.

If you make all these preliminary checks and the switch still does not work, replace it. The following link will give you step-by-step instructions on how to replace the switch:

Let me know if you require further assistance or part sources. I hope this helps you.

Humming noise during spin cycle

Strangely enough, the electronics in the motor drive circuits are quite hardy. Suggest if motor does agitate but not spin, check the motor brushes and see what length and condition they are in.Have had to replace brushes on many occasion. If you have a motor that has a capacitor then check the cap. It could be defective.
