SOURCE: Stove top works, broil works, clean works.

At the back of the oven where the sides meet the top you will see a thermastat it looks like a small knitting needle with a copper wire disapering into the back of the oven, ensure that it is not touching the oven roof or side, it should be about 1/4 "from any metal surface.
This tells your oven when to switch the heating element on and off, the copper wire goes all the way to the dial on the front of your oven.
The element is working so the problem is either the temperature dial or the thermostat.

SOURCE: my oven temperature is 100 degrees hotter than it should be

It will be the sensor inside the oven compartment that is causing the problem.
A new sensor should cure the prob, certainley cheaoer than buying a new oven.
Hope my advice helps you.

Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

Model: JDS8850AAS -- Oven won't preheat above 150

Hello,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake ignitor is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake ignitor(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of ignitor make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake ignitor. I know it seems improbable that if the ignotor comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the ignitor comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak ignitor is the cause 100% of the time

Hope this helps

Lower element stop working, wouldn't heat past 140 degrees, then tried to used the stove top and those stop working completely. Is there a safety feature to cuts the stove top off? Also is the element...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

This sounds as if you have lost half of the power to your Oven. It can be from a partially tripped main Circuit Breaker for the Oven or an internal wiring problem of a burned wire or terminal. It can also be the range control itself. but I doubt that since you said the burners also do not work (depending on model) If you have separate burner controls definatly NOT the range control.

If you pass your model number we can better help you. The fact that the lower element is only reaching 140 degrees is pretty much indicating that your oven is operating on 110V vs 220V. The causes again are input power, oven wiring or the range control.

Reset the Oven CB and check BOTH ends of the range cord (if you have one) for signs of hot terminals. For a direct connection look closely at the terminal board where the house wiring connected to the oven.

With a MODEL number I can look at manuals and diagrams to better assist you. Please pass that complete MODEL number in any future responses. Most any future response I provide after I get a MODEL number will involve using a meter and opening the oven to troubleshoot.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

They last 3-5 years depending how much you use your stove.
Disconnect POWER to the stove, remove the screws holding the lower element to the back of the inside of the stove, pull out carefully and remove the 2 screws holding the wires on. Check the element with an ohm meter, it should read 0 (zero or very close) resistance on an ohm meter. You may also take it to a store that sells replacements ($25) and they may check it for you.
