External HD isnt recognized by ps3

Hmm, go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Disk Management. Then look or scroll down right hand panel to find your disk. If it is there you could RIGHT click on it and assign a new drive letter such as Q or R.
If it's not there your external disk could be faulty, the power supply transformer or power cable could be faulty or it could be the USB cable.
If all looks OK you probably need to contact a disk recovery specialist such as DATA365.

Comment: NTFS is a much more stable file system and is much easier to recover after errors. FAT32 is not commonly used now.

Have a 1 tb buffalo external hd. worked great had it for back up. I unplugged it to move my computer. when I plugged it back in, there was no green light no power to the drive. check voltage and the power...

try to test it on other computer or laptop... if the unit are still exist maybe your problem would be the external drive..there are no switch button on it, because most of the switches are located on the adapter, the only testing you could do is to test it to other unit..If the external drive are ok once after you test from other PC's, then might as well check your USB port by plugging-in to other port...or try to use other power supply on your computer, co'z sometimes the supply can no longer supplied any voltage coming from your external drive once it plug-in..

External Buffalo Hard Disk 500 Gb model no HD-PF500U2/BK-AP not detecting when connnected to a laptop or a desktop PC

Check the usb port function in the computer bios settings and be sure that it is set to yes. Connect properly your external drive. If it has two wire usb connections, use both to obtain the maximum power that will be need by your drive.

Plug in 220 v power line, it burns and smokes. Can data be saved?

Is the power supply internal or external? If external, then just find a similiar or identical unit. If internal, then you could try removing the hard drive and installing it temporarily in a desktop system. Obviously, interfaces must match (SATA, IDE). You could then see if it is accessible, and get any files.
