Question about TonJon Lighted Travel 3X or 5X Mirror in White

I'm try to rewire my TonJon Nova illuminated mirror, but can't figure out how to separate the extending arms, which I believe is necessary to rewire. Any suggestions?

Remove replace 05 aztek drivers side mirror assembly


I believe you have to remove the door panel to access the retaining screws. If you google aztek door panel removal there are several links that pop up to aid you in removing the panel.

How do I replace a rear upper control arm ball joint on a 1998 Lexus gs400


You probably should replace the whole upper control arm. I don't believe that you can separate the ball joint from the control arm without damaging it and the ball joints are not listed separately for sale. [If the ball joint is bad, the bushings can't be in very good shape, either.]

To replace the upper control arm, you need to take the weight off the spring and pop the ball joint out of the spindle with a special tool

96 manual Lantra, trying to separate gearbox to change main oil seal on box. All bolts out but clutch arm goes tight. Tips please ready to burn it.


Somtimes with manual gear boxes the clutch shaft wears in the spigot bearing / bush in the crank shaft or flywheel. It may be necessary to apply force evenly around the bell housing to remove the rust build up on this shaft. If you have a pull type clutch plate ( the only reason for the release arm getting tight) it will be necessary to release this arm from its pivot point first . Check the manual for this proceedure.

Side view mirror light on 2003 GMC Yukon not working


GM calls these the exterior illumination lamps. They receive power from the driver and passenger door modules. The lamps could be bad or something is preventing power from getting from the door modules to the lamps. The "repeater" turn indicators in the mirrors are powered separately so they could be OK while the illumination lamps are not

Replace wiper motor


Wiper Motor
  1. Remove the wiper blade and arm assemblies, as outlined earlier in this section.
  2. Turn the ignition ON and the wiper switch OFF so the wiper motor returns to the park position.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Unfasten any necessary retainers and remove the air inlet screen assembly. Disconnect the washer hoses.

Detach the electrical connectors from the wiper motor. Remove the wiper motor mounting bolts/screws.

2003 gmc mirrors do not fold in


The power mirrors are controlled by a module (computer) DDM - drivers door module an the PDM - passenger door module .

The folding mirror system requires signals from 2 separate switches. The mirror select switch must be in the neutral/fold position and the mirror direction switch must be activated to the left/extend or right/retract positions. Both switches are integrated into the DDM and provide direct signals.
Folding Mirror System Operation
Upon receipt of the required switch inputs the DDM will supply battery voltage and ground to the mirror fold motor control circuits to perform the requested extend or retract function. The DDM will also send a class 2 message to the PDM indicating the requested function. The PDM will supply battery voltage and ground to the mirror fold motor control circuits to perform the requested extend or retract function.

The power mirror system consists of the following components:
• The driver door module--Class 2 module with integrated switches and requires programming when replaced
• The passenger door module--Class 2 module with integrated switches, requires programming when replaced and also contains the RFA receiver
• The power mirror direction switch--Integrated into DDM and is a 4-position momentary switch that provides a signal input to the DDM for up, down, left/extend and right/retract with a mirror switch activation
• The mirror select switch--Integrated into DDM and is a 3-position switch that allows the operator to select the left or right mirror and also a neutral/fold position
• The left outside power mirror--Contains both the vertical and horizontal mirror motors and is serviced as a complete mirror assembly
• The right outside power mirror--Contains both the vertical and horizontal mirror motors and is serviced as a complete mirror assembly
• The body control module--Class 2 module that requires programming when replaced, serves as the power mode master and is the main message handler
• The DDM 10A fuse--Located in the I/P fuse block and is hot at all times
• The PDM 10A fuse--Located in the I/P fuse block and is hot at all times
• The memory switch, if equipped with memory mirrors--Supplied power by the DDM and provides a voltage signal to the DDM upon a switch activation
• The horizontal and vertical position sensors, if equipped with memory mirrors--Supplied a 5-volt and low reference by the DDM/PDM and provide a variable voltage signal to the DDM/PDM that is proportional to mirror position
• The park neutral position switch, if equipped with memory mirrors--Provides transmission gear selection information to the PCM and is used for memory recall and mirror tilt in reverse functions
• The powertrain control module, if equipped with memory mirrors--Class 2 module that requires programming when replaced and provides Class 2 message indicating transmission gear selection
• The driver information center (DIC), if equipped with memory mirrors--Part of the instrument cluster which is a Class 2 module that requires programming when replaced and is used to personalize the memory recall and mirror tilt in reverse functions
• Fold motor in each of the outside mirrors, if equipped with power fold mirrors--Provides extend and retract movements of the mirror and is serviced as a complete mirror assembly
Each of the outside power mirrors contains 2 reversible motors to provide horizontal and vertical movement of the mirror glass. The vertical motor operates the up and down directions and the horizontal motor operates the left and right directions. If equipped with power folding mirrors, each outside power mirror will contain a reversible fold motor to operate the extend and retract functions. Each of the mirror motors are circuit breaker protected.

I have the mirror box lever problem in a spotmatic


Ok, the problem may well be the mirror charge latch. This is very commonly the cause of failure to wind or fire. The catch will be out of sync with the charging lever etc and so the mirror springs will not stay tensioned.

If it is, the cammera will be stuck with the shutter charged (Cocked) but will not fire because the mirror has not been properly primed. (The shutter is actually fired by the mirror. The shutter button actually releases the mirror.)

Remove the bottom cover. There is a long lever shiny arm engaging a crank-pin on winder gear extending to a point just below camera-right of the lens mount. It pivots on a large screw, and there is a largish wire spring which extends to engage a small hole in the end of a lever near the arm end, that dissapears into the camera.

The lever with the hole in it is the mirror charging arm, the long shiny lever pushes this towards the front of the camera to tension the mirror springs, when the film advance is operated.

Next to this is a shorter arm which extends over a gear at one end and is free at the other. This is the latch. The gear wheel engages a small pinion which is in fact the end of the blind roller for the closing curtain/blind. A peg on this gear strikes the other end of the latch to move it out the way and release the mirror tension after the shutter has finished, and this in trun resets the mirror, and releases the winder.

When the mirror is charged the mirror charging arm is held in the tensioned position by the 'free' end of the latch. If the shutter is ready to fire the charging arm should be pressing against the free end. If it isn't the camera will not fire.

To fix this it is easier if the shutter is fired. To do this first remove the large screw holding the long arm. Not forgetting the spring! There is a washer which must be removed too. Do not lose this it is important. This gets it out of the way. now push the charging arm towards camera front as far as it will go. You won't get it all the way, as the latch will be in the way, just as far as you can. If it isn't in the way, then this is not your problem!

Holding it in this position, press the shutter release. This should fire the shutter. If it does not fire then you may also have to remove the latch to allow you to push the arm forwards a little more. (In fact if you can hold the arm in the primed position you could replace the catch in the primed position. This is awkward though!)

When the shutter has fired the latch should move to the 'reset' position, allowing the charging arm to be pushed past it's end. If this is OK, you need to push the lever back to the reset postion. The mirror will remain in the up postion until you do this.

Now you can replace the long arm, again not forgetting the spring. The screw that holds that on has a shoulder, that the spring loops around, and the washer has a flat spot in the hole which means it has to be fitted in the right position. The end of the spring should poke through the mirror arm hole. The easiest way to reassemble this is to put the arm in, then fit the washer. Now place the spring loosely in position, and then put the screw in place loosley. This allows you to manuver the end of the sprion into the hole, You can then carefully tighten the screww. The washer has a tendency to become dislodged so you might have to try this a couple of times. (A blob of grease here can help keep the washer in place.)

If that's all OK then you should be able to wind and fire. If everything seems fine, check the screws are firm (Don't overtighten any!) and replace the bottom cover.


This is a very common fault, and is often caused by jarring the camera just at the wrong monent, but it can develop in an old camera (and they all are!) just due to wear. The latch has in fact changed in shape several times in the lifteime of this mechanism (and it was still in use in K1000's in 1997!) and is the mst common single cause of jams in these cameras.

A little lubrication can help. A spot of lighter fluid can be used to remove old oil and grease from the winder gear, the cocking arm pivot, anf the latch pivot. A tiny amount of grease can be applied to the slow moving pivots and contact points only. A tiny drop of watch oil can be used on the latch pivot. and the opeating peg, but no oil must get into the axle or teeth of the gear itself. This can cause uneven and erratic running of the curtain.
