lfamily4, Not enough information. You have only stated generic symptom that could have many different root causes for an LCD/FPD. Answer these questions. Did the P815 have a nice bright, sharp image on it before the time you discovered this new problem? The last time you turned it on, how long did it take to go to a BLACK screen? Was it 1 or 2 or 3 seconds that you saw a Windows screen, and then it went BLACK? How old is this viewsonic? Is it out of warranty? Have you surfed web for anything like "bad capacitors in lcd monitors" Here is one simple test to perform. Reconnect P815 to a fully booted pc with WinDesktop showing. Then and only then turn on the P815. Make note of how long the screen shows a normal desktop. After it goes black, shine a bright flashlight (1-2inches from screen) and check to see, even though screen appears black if you can still see the image of the WinDesktop being displayed. get back to me with test results. Probably the inverter section is not lighting up the cold cathode fluorescent tubes but for a few seconds and then shuts down because it has detected a problem. Have you seen those funny looking energy saving curlieQ light bulbs? Guess what! Your monitor tubes are straight and much thinner, and hung horizontally left to right on backside of your LCD. Having the same "going black" problem with my HP w 1907 after about a year. Can anyone tell me if they found it to be their computer or the monitor before I spend unnecessary money trying to figure it out.
