I cannot start my Dell Latitude D820 unless I put it in the refridgerator for about 1/2 hour. If I do a restart, then I can hear the disks start, but the comminication to the monitor during bootup seems to get truncated and it just goes idle...The little power light shows, but the computer is not working. no matter how many times it does this over and over andd will not start. I then stick the laptop in the fridge for about a 1/2 hour and it boots up just fine and the OS functions just fine. Any thoughts or suggestions??

Sounds like your system is overheating. Can you hear the fan in your system running?

It sounds like the processor is overheating.

Possible resolution is replacing the processor heatsink and cooling fan, see if the system runs better. Also, if possible, flash the BIOS to the most current version

My Dell Latitude D820 Notebook wont start up. It was acting a bit glitchy but nothing serious when it was on so i decided to restart it. When I tried to restart it The Green Power light came on a it very...

Sounds like a motherboard issue. The sound you are hearing is probably the fan running so your board may not be totally shot. Generally, when the computer won't start at all that is the issue. The only other thing I can think of is the power supply but your fan probably wouldn't run either.

I have a Dell Latitude D820. It is password

Try pressing control alt delete, which should start your task manager..

Then choose new task

type in explorer

If it pulls up a window, then what you need to do is a system restore..

If it does not pull up a window, then you will need to locate a xp install disk or one of your recovery disks and try a repair install

Key fell off

Normally, the solution is to replace the keyboard, they run about $20 on ebay and takes about 15 minutes to change.
