Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Wil not stay on and no heat.

My electric dryer stopped working the other day. It will only work if i hold the start button in. There is also no heat. It is only a couple of years old. Door switch is okay, I have also tested the Thermal cut off switch and threl fuse for continuity and they test okay. Any other suggestions would be great.

GE dryer starts but..... stops

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.

Start button and no heat

Those two problems are usually unrelated and I believe you just have a coincidence that they both happened at the same time. You should replace the start button since it is faulty. The heating problem could merely be that the machine does not have enough time running to heat up since you have to hold the button to keep it running, however if that is not the case then you should replace the heating element and the thermostat. Possibly the thermal fuse as well just in case.

Maytag PYE2300AYW starts when I hold the button in, but will not stay started.

The motor will need to be replaced. There is a throw-out switch on the motor that keeps it running after you release the start button. These are generally easy to change, with the only hard part being taking the cover off and putting it back on. Any of these motors listed will fit your unit.

My Dryer will only work if I hold start button, when I release start button the dryer stops.

Anra, this is a classic symptom of a failed even heat board. I've seen a lot of these failures out there. Easy to change out. Check out this link. back

Anra, the problem is in the even heat board under the consol. This is a very easy job. Check out this link. Catriver, post back
