Blew the Fuse in my GE PDW9880LSS Dishwasher

My dishwasher is dead in the water. I think a water leak shorted it out at the plug. It poped the GFI outlet & now it is dead. I think it blew an internal fuse. Can anyone tell me if that seems logical; where the fuse is located in this thing & where I might purchase another fuse for it?

Re: Blew the Fuse in my GE PDW9880LSS Dishwasher

There is no in-line fuse in your dishwasher. If water has gotten into the junction box, (where the dishwasher and supply line are connected) it could have shorted at that point. Call a technician for service.

GFCI keeps poping when I turn on the dishwasher

Sounds like your electrician miswired your GFCI oulet. They probably pulled power for your dishwasher off of the 20 Amp small appliance circuit required in all kitchens. This could be simple or difficult to fix, depending on where exactly they pulled power from. You will need to trace the dishwasher wire back to find out which receptacle box they pulled power from. If they pulled it from the first GFI outlet, you're in luck. Simply pull out the GFI and move the dishwasher pigtail from the LOAD side of the GFI to the LINE side of the GFI. If they pulled the dishwasher circuit from a receptacle downstream of the GFI, you will have to pull a new circuit for the dishwasher from somewhere else, as switching the branch circuit from LOAD to LINE at the GFI would defeat the ground fault protection for all outlets downstream of the GFI. Before doing all this, make sure there are no shorts to the frame of the dishwasher that could be causing the GFI to trip in the first place. If you need more detailed instructions, let me know. I'd be happy to walk you through it.

When I plug in my dishwasher it trips my test fuse and none of my plug sockets work. Do I need a plumber or electrician?

Electrician. You have a short in the dishwasher which is an electrical problem. Is it tripping GFI outlet. If so the GFI is probably weak or overloaded. Try regular outlet not on the GFI circuit and see what happens.

This is happening because you have a very bad fault, a Phase to Earth short, problem. Leave machine UNPLUGGED, Breaker/Fuses OUT. do NOT use it, nor Touch it, It is possible to get severe electric shock. PLEASE get a registered serviceman to inspect this unit.

If your dishwasher is on a wall switch, someone may have shut it off, Your dishwasher could be pluged into a Daisy chaned GFI, check all your GFI in the kitchen and make sure none are triped. The home Fuse Box, make sure the braker is not triped.

After all that has passed, there is a power conection box under the machine. Make sure the power is off from the breaker box or the machine is unpluged before inspecting under the machine or trying to repair this machine.

Blew a circit breaker this morning dishwasher wont start all power in kitchen is working this is a 1 1/2 year old dish washer

I am sure that you know that the dishwasher is on its own circuit... and that, in an older home that has been upgraded, the dishwasher may be on a GFI circuit.... If I am correct, you have an open GFI circuit somewhere in the kitchen or in a first floor bathroom.... that is feeding the dishwasher...

If all breakers are 'on" and no failed GFI is found, the the bad news is that the program chip in the dishwasher has been fried...
If that is the case, you may be better off replacing the dishwasher than in replacing the chip in the old one.

I have a new dishwasher and it won't start. it is set for normal wash and heated dry. when i close the door and push start, it doesn't start.

You don't say if it does anything at all or is just dead. I'll guess just dead.

First, make sure you have power to the dishwasher. Breakers all on? Some homes have the dishwashers plugged into an outlet under the sink. Usually one of these outlets is switched (for disposer) and the other half of the outlet is live, for a dishwasher. If you have the outlet connection, plug a lamp into the recepticle to make sure you have power. Some outlets may even be "downstream" from a GFI recepticle which may be tripped. Second, you may have to check to make sure the twist wire nut connectors are all good and tight on the white, black, and ground wires at the connection to the dishwasher. Hold the wire nut and tug on the wires to make sure they stay in the wire nut.
