Hey, I just read an article online titled, Testing for 240 Volts to Your Dryer - Without a Voltmeter, here's the link http://www.davesrepair.com/DIYhelp/DIY240Vtester.htm

I am not sure how you could test anything else though, such as the thermal fuse or thermostat, without the Volt/Ohm Meter. They are about $10 at any big box home store--we just went ahead and bought one.

Good luck!

Whirlpool estate electric dryer takes three full cycles to dry. Not sure if it is the heating element or the thermal fuse? This dryer is a 1/3 HP motor large capacity, heavy duty dryer.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Doesn't dry as quickly as it should-have to do 2 cycles to dry a load. It is about 7 years old. Is it worth fixing?

If the load is extremely large or heavy it may require more time. If you are using the auto cycle and the clothes are not drying then the sensor may be not operating correctly. Make sure the lint filter is clean and that the exhaust vent duct is not clogged. Check all the way to the outlet. If all is clear then the thermostat2.gif may need to be replaced if it is not calling for heat as often as it should. Also check to make sure there is air flow from the vent. If not then the fan/blower may be broken or disconnected from the motor shaft.

Whirlpool electric dryer not drying

If the drier drum is still turning I would suspect a separate fuse is open for the heating element. Checking this may require openning the back cover. It may also be a defective or open heating element.

Twin thin dryer

I believe that it is the thermostat that is bad if it will not heat. It is the piece that supplys electrical heat to the heat coils. 696818 is the whirlpool part number for the thermostat on my stackable unit and it can be purchased online for 10-15 bucks.
