The cd player stopped working. It says 'ERR' on the small screen. What does that mean? What do I do?

My CD Player will spin a few times and stop with "ERR" on the Digital Window Display, if it's a dirty Lens, would that be the reason, but it says on the inside of the Unit to "NEVER touch Lens", what can I use to clean without damaging it?
