Question about Brother MultiFunction Center MFC-440CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Networking a Printer on a wireless network

I work on a Macbook Pro. I have recently bought a Brother 440cn and an Airport Express Base Station in the hopes of printing wirelessly. However, this has not been the case. I have a Linksys WRT150N wireless router that runs my internet. I have set up the Airport Express and the router and the laptop sees the base station, but they do not see the printer. I can ping the printer from my laptop and it is located. The laptop even sees the printer as it is connected to the Airport Express, but I can not connect to the device. I go into the Printer utility and it tells me that it fails to connect to the device. This is driving me CRAZY! I have called Brother and they said that you can not connect this printer through the (airport Express) base station, that it needs to be connected to the router directly. My issue is that my router is in another room (actually a closet) and my house is networked via jacks in the walls. I have just installed a wireless router that allows me to have internet access from any room with my laptop. On my Macbook Pro I connected the (AP) base station to my existing network (wireless) because when I tried to set it up on a new network connection, it would kick me offline. I could not print and be on the internet at the same time, and that defeats my purpose. I am stuck and do not know what to do at this point. Can you assist?

I am not sure how that will solve my problem. I will still have the problem connecting to the internet and the priner at the same time. My Mac seems to connect to wireless devices before I can install the software. If it creates another network connection (via airport) then it will kick me off my wireless internet connection when I go to print. Is there a way to connect the printer to the network or router? The Airport Express Base Station is supposed to act as a print server. (according to apple.com) I guess, I just do not understand how this will not work. The printer is less than a week old. If I return it then the base station is no good to me. The only reason I purchased it is because I was told I could use it t print wirelessly.

Now, I know that the APE base station does have an IP address, and shows the USB Printer assigned to it. I am just not understanding why I can not connect to the printer through the base station. Can you explain this a little more?

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.

    Ok. brother has this statementhttp://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC...

Im not very common to the (newer) mac os. Left apple with system 7 15 years ago ;-).

Can you turn off the dhcp in the router and give each, the apple aiport express and the macbook, a single fix ip? If yes, there should be no more prob, because they where both within the same network adress.

If not, take the mfc 440cn and the airport express station back to the dealer and change to the wireless component mentioned in the first post. The advantage is that you can use scanner, printer and fax (mfc only) within your network without problems.

I can't connect apple airport expresses with a siemens 587 route

Login to your airport express using Apple's airport utilities (either in it's current configuration or after resetting it).

Using the airport utility do not choose manual setup, just select continue.

Adjust (as required) the airport express station name and password and select continue.

Select "I have a wireless network and I want to add AirPort Express or replace an existing device on my network and select continue.

Select I want Airport Express to wireless join my current network and select continue.

Choose if you want to extent the rance of your network or just join the network and select continue.

Choose the network you wish to join... etc etc etc....

You should be fine.

New Apple Airport Express Base station blinking amber light

Using the Airport utility on your macbook (located in your Utilities folder) will tell you what the conflict is.....most likely you have DHCP issue or the network is at the incorrect setting.
The wizard in the utility will tell you what you should fix.

Wireless and multi function printers

I'm sorry to say that the answer to your question is no.  You can print wirelessly with most printers using either an Airport Extreme Base station or an Airport Express, but for scanning, you will need to be physically connected to the scanner.

If you wanted to, you might be able to set up that old desktop to be permanently (and physically) connected to the scanner, and then you could either connect to that PC over your home network to access the scanned files, or you could potentially email them to yourself from the PC.  That might be your best bet.

Hope this helps!

New wireless network - now my airport express and airtunes does not work

Hi I was searching this site for a solution to a problem I am having and came across your post. I had the same issue and what I did was reset my airport express to factory settings (detailed in manual) - this enabled the Airport extreme to find/pair with it.
